One form or another of damn near all of this is currently on the test server, either in suggestion or being tested. IMO, the trick is to come up with a balance between blitzes working, but there being some form of a risk to them, and the more they're ran, I believe the higher the risk should be. I have no clue how it's going to shake out, but this sure seems to be a priority for Bort and he's definitely working on it

I just ran two test games, both with the FS blitz that is the rage right now in full effect. One game, I had audibling active and the other I didn't. With the audibling active, the blitz pick up was superb. Even with the audibling inactive, the QB was able to burn the defense for some big plays and the defense was still able to get a lot of pressure (11 sacks in 96 pass attempts). It looks like it is moving in the right direction, but we'll see how that translates to the live server if/when it is moved here.

It would be pretty sweet if the FS could be called off the blitz and drop into zone after the audible.

That's what I'm afraid of. I don't want to see us swing back to the other extreme again where blitzing is worthless (and I know you don't either). IMO, GLB tends to swing to hard from one side to the other and we need to start hitting that middle ground more.

I dunno, if people want to keep 8 people in to block, that opens up the pass game. I don't really have a problem with that. It's when teams send 7 on 5 and get no pressure that I have a problem -- in the 2nd sim I ran, that was the case and the pressure being applied was fine.

First let me say Great Job guys. Its appreciated.

Now for my question. Is there anyway to fix the HB and FB blocking paths on QB running plays. The QB runs toward the sideline while the HB and FB turn up field when they get outside the Tackle. Why doesn't the QB either follow his blockers up the field or the HB and FB swing outside more before they head up field?

These are just a couple plays but it happens all the time. I can find more if you would like.

I'll leave that one for Hazy, if he wants to pick up the torch...He knows so much more about rushing QBs then I'll ever pretend to be able to.

BTW, Hazy, I didn't watch your scrims. so, I'll give ya that one. I just want us to be careful, so that we don't end up killing blitzing again, and realize you feel the same. so, I believe ya.

It's really more of a play design thing - right now the plays currently have the backs cut up field initially rather than take an outside path. Probably something that should be looked into being changed but we could say that about 50 other things too lol.

Yeah I guess there isn't enough people with running QBs to cause fuss.

Please don't take this the wrong way. I am not a computer guy. Would it be that difficult to make the QB follow the blockers? Or have the HB and FB run outside a little more? There is only 6 QB outside run plays.

Again I am completely ignorant to how this works. So forgive me if I just asked a dumb question.

ya...one would think just a smaller loop for the QB would solve a ton of stuff in those replays...

I assume both of those will be yes, just want to get it quoted off your lips so it's correct.

It is both teams, all players.

yup. Every QB that audibles isn't Peyton Manning.

This would certainly be the most logical way of avoiding PP's fear. Vision check by QB to audible, vision check by OL to respond correctly to the audible, vision check by blitzer to call off blitz if he thinks QB audible is directed at him. The last one should probably be the hardest to pass.

Then, in my pipe dreams, eventually we progress to where a non-blitzer can become a blitzer if the QB audibles to pick up another blitzer (e.g. ROLB showing blitz, LOLB not. QB audibles to pick up ROLB. ROLB passes vision check and calls off his blitz AND LOLB rolls vision check to decide if he blitzes instead - the latter of course would have to be a DPC setting, not automatic...LBs shouldn't decide to blitz on their own if it doesn't make sense).

I've been seeing passes getting deflected toward the WR, and the WR catches the deflected ball. I wonder if there are any modifiers in the sim codes that ensures the coverage guys try to PD the ball away from the WR, so the WR would not even get a change to get his hands on the ball.

Has Bort spoken anything about this matter? Or are the current PD system just tries to PD the ball, and won't worry about where the ball would land at all?

I'm about 1/4th of the way through reviewing my last test game (time crunch), but am trying to address this, also. Too many PDs are getting caught on my tests, IMO
