Not having lvl. 1 - 8 players in a cap 18 would be a good start.

Lvl. 4-6 LBs aren't going to be able to stop lvl. 19-22 HBs just like lvl. 4-6 D-linemen aren't going to avoid being pancaked by lvl. 18-22 O-linemen.

Basically what I'm saying is...there's nothing you can do to stop anything until your team is more level appropriate. Your job as a DC for a slowbuild is to make sure everyone on the defense gets as much XP as possible. That's pretty much it.

If you want to make an attempt to stop outside runs vs higher caliber teams, then modify your defensive play calling. Put your CB's on the HB and use your SS & FS to cover the WR's. You can also modify where your OLB's line up. Of course doing this will leave you vulnerable elsewhere, but it's worth a shot to see if it works.

So I've been asked a number of time about stopping rushing QB's in Casual Leagues. I've mentioned different options (higher % towards outside runs, find tendencies and higher % towards certain sides).

But the way everything is limited in Casual leagues, unless you have better builds, there isn't a "true" way to defend them. Hell, I played against a rushing QB and their team was out-leveled and the open builds I saw weren't too impressive. The guy still ran all over us - you'd watch the replay and the D fails to recognize anything....truly a failure in the system.

This makes me wonder, why doesn't everyone just build rushing Qb's and have them in these leagues?

Using Custom Def: move your Safeties towards the outside & up into an area between the CB & LB on each side.
From there, you can either have your Safeties double up on the WRs, focus on HB/FB on their side, or Zone.
This would give you flexibility, keep your LB towards the inside so you don't weaken Run support, and Safeties tend to have just as much speed as anyone so they fill quickly.

I'm going to post this in a couple areas, so if you provided a response to an already thread on this, don't worry about replying as I will check all areas. Thanks in advance.

I have a pertty decent MLB on one of our teams (L60 - STR 79, SPD 110, AGI 70's) and he'd like to Blitz the QB from time to time, but we haven't had the best luck even against what seems to be lower teams.

Any suggestion (link/snapshot) etc of where the MLB should be and Blitz from for the best result?

Thanks,

question revolving around this example.
2nd down 1-3 yards to go has one output
2nd down 4-6 yards to go has another output
What happens when it's 2nd down 3.5 yards to go?

some random D play in the playbook gets called. That is why you set things up to be 0-3 yds, 3-6 yds, & 6+ yds. or some other variation of distances, the point is you need to eliminate the holes.

One of the teams I DC for lost a playoff game. I'm trying to figure out what went wrong. I had set the DAI about a day before the game. I know I set the D tactics before the game. However, when I look at the tactics page my tactics do not appear.
I was editing the tactics up to the last minute. Is it possible I was editing the tactics at the same time the game started and the tactics were "locked" or something and couldn't be used?

The only thing that I've found to work is 3-4 zone about 98% with 2 or 3 spies. Just hope and pray that they dont change their offensive tactics.
