With the Offensive AI settings below, why didn't we attempt to kick the FG instead of run the ball? What went wrong?





The Play:
0:37 1st & 10 OPP 34.5 steven wisby rush up the middle (5.5 yd gain) [tackle: Biz Markie]
0:14 2nd & 4.5 OPP 29 Brynn He Like Me rush up the middle (1.5 yd gain) [tackle: Black Hole Baker]


Tactics:
Quarter 2 Specific

Input: End of Half, FG Range

Time Remaining in quarter: less than 20 seconds
Ball Spot (yard line): Between any spot and any spot
Down: Between 1 and 4
Yards to first down: Between 1 and 10

Score Difference: Between blank and blank
Special Circumstance: Within FG range

(FG range was left up to the AI; in the previous games this season he has attempted 50+ yd FGs)


Pct Chance: 100%
Output: FG
Play Type: FG
Play Distance: Use Basic Settings
Primary Receiver: Use Basic Settings
Rusher (rush only): Use basic Settings

He's attempted 50+ yarders this season, but missed. Maybe the AI felt you weren't in range yet.

It's hard to say. It does look like it should have kicked.

Even though he has missed them this season I would think that at least an attempt would have been tried. Could this be a bug?

Will the AI shorten a kickers range as the game goes along? If it does then why would he kick a 74yd 2nd half kickoff? Very strange. Something similar to this happened in our last game when we went for it on 4th and goal with 2min left in the game and we were up by 3. Instead of the FG we went for it even though I had the tactics set to kick the FG.

In the Offense AI you have a Default Input called "Down Late" in the "4th Quarter" section. It will run that Input if you are behind in the score in the 4th quarter, regardless of the down you are on. This explains why we twice went for it on 4th down in the same drive in the 4th quarter. We were behind by 1 point so this input kicked in and overrode all other inputs. It is an ok input as long as you modify the Down to not include 4th down. I would strongly suggest deleting or Editing the input so it doesn't happen to your team.

Thanks. That'll take care of the 4th qtr problem. I still don't know what to do about the end of the half situation.

Don't leave the field goal range up to the AI but select it yourself. 47, to kick them from the OPP30 and 52 to kick from the 52. If nothing else this will guarantee you at least kick them.

If you run the Test Offensive AI with those details does it choose to kick a field goal? If I leave the range blank then according to the Test I simply won't be lining up for a field goal at certain ranges.
