what have you guys used to stop the run?

I blitz 40% of the time.

Run Defence is 50% Pass Defence is 50%

Inside and Outside run is 50/50

Zone coverage 50% Man coverage 50%

Defend Short pass 25% Medium Pass 50% Long Pass 25%

and i run the 4-3. i basically have 2 NTs. but the one starting NT has his build on private so i can't see it. we got torched for i think 211 yards. our defence can't get off the field. but the LBs are great. they just need protection. i think it might be our ends fault but im not sure

Yeah, open up the advanced AI...even under the old AI this would have been a bad plan.

yeah i change it up to the other team strengths. i stole settings from a team i was gonna play from my cousin. he sowed them to me to prove it, then i changed my D settings to that and it didn't work. ive been switching them though

A strong D line (High Strength, Tackling, agility) should be all you need. semi-decent LB's will help.

What settings are best for the run:

for coverage defense, Zone or Man-to-man?

and play length defense, best to defend majority short? medium? long?

blitz alot? (i.e. more than 40 or 50%?)

to stop the run you need players with decent vision, good strength/tackling to make the play, and speed+agility to get to the play

there are some game planning things you can do to help put players in the right position, but it generally comes down to "can you win the 1 on 1 battles?"

earlier this season, our team played another that out-level'd us by probably 3-4 levels per player

we got stomped, but there where probably 2-3 broken tackles on each play

if we'd been even levels, we probably would have held them to 50 yards rushing

The issue this season is that safety and linebacker pathing is REALLY messed up.

The LBs and Ss run right at the line and get stuck, so basically all a HB has to do right now is get outside, possibly break 1 CB tackle and hes gone.

Agreed...the tactics for stopping the run are relatively simple. Its winning the one-on-one battles both along the line and when trying to make the tackle that is the difference between winning and losing. Between living, and dying. On this team, we fight for that inc...er, sorry bout that, got carried away.

I'd love to know why the SS couldn't get away from the blocker when the blocker was basically blocking the SS towards the play - the defender should have been able to disengage. I've seen this a lot - its like the players have no backs or fronts, they just exist in one dimension.

If you look at the two defense sets, the LB is up close to the line and gets blocked. No sure if you are using the AI, but your 'run-focus' has made your LBs an easy block for an outside run. You can see the TE tries to get out to block the LB, but the LB is too far away and can go around him.

Then the guard pulls and puts a block on the SS. The Guards last season didn't pull very well as displayed in that replay.

This is just good blocking and a different defense set compared to last season.
