I tried building a player and realized, I have no idea what I'm doing anymore. What's the timeline for a DoT?

Is this your first time returning since the Dotpocalypse in Season 98? If so, a TON has changed. Start by reading through the Announcement Log and the Changelog for a quick synopsis of what the fuck happened, and that should give you a better idea of what questions you should be asking right now.

I spent hundreds and hundreds of hours creating a day by day/step by step build guide for every position. Now they're useless.

You may have lost your AIs but your crested defensive plays should still be attached to your account. Which is pretty solid.

The step by step process is more or less the same, just expedited

they were, i like making plays though. writing DAI's from scratch , for me, was a little time consuming. felt like a full time job..

Yep, that's the bad news.
The good news is everyone else is in the same boat, so you're not at any disadvantage.
The "eh" news is that I used my old build plans as a basic foundation for creating new ones with the VPB script, which has already been updated to account for the shortened build process. So my new dots suck approximately the same as my old ones!

I don't mean to be a dick, but I'm talking in depth. Maybe every other build guide was as/more extensive or as/more detailed, but I put in some serious hours and effort for every single position. It can't be "the same" just expedited.
While this will obviously appear to be completely elementary to long time players, this passage was meant for brand new players who normally get overwhelmed and quit.
The 1st 16 Human Days of your players life are critical. Your player's career will start on Day 1 of the season and will be Zero Days Old up until Day 1 of the season. So most often in this game when someone refers to "Days" they are referring to your player's career. In this forum, I will personally try to differentiate between Days and Human Days.
Below is a step by step template of how to get your player off to an amazing start by setting up a great foundation. In this below example, this is the guide for a Man Specialist CB. While we explained in the welcome thread that this Developmental program/forum is brand spanking new and a creation in motion, and by no means a finished product. So if you have questions about different player Archetypes ask questions before creating until we have had a chance to add all the information we can. When this SubForum is complete, we will have every player archetype in here for you to follow.
