No disrespect intended to victims or victims families or people impacted by it and I fully support whatever you feel like you need to do to heal or honor whoever but is there anything wrong with forgetting? Obviously not going to forget it happened and every year on the actual date, probably going to think about it for a second or two but life goes on, the world still turns, the sun still rises.

I'm curious if that makes me an apathetic monster? This particular tragedy aside, never understood why friends, families always mark the anniversaries of accidents or visit accident sites for years, even decades after the fact. Somebody with experience in the human condition will have to explain the value of that to me. On the outside looking in, it just feels like needless wallowing in tragedy and a fear of moving on. In fact, I have experienced my own tragic loss and am often taken back by the number of people that email or text me on the anniversary to say "thinking of you today, I know how hard it must be" and to be honest, I feel an obligation to respond and go along with it when the truth is, I don't think about it as an anniversary or mark the date and would be completely oblivious to it being "that day" if people didn't bring it up. I'm curious if that is strange.

You don't come to the World League forum of an internet browser game to post about 9/11 as part of the grieving process; it's for attention.

I believe it is now DPride's signature

everyone is unique, so why wouldn't their grief be unique as well? for people who have lost mothers, mother's day is hard. for people who have lost a child, their birthday is hard. sometimes people trek to a gravesite just to be a bit closer, or maybe to show respect. rarely does it have anything to do with "wallowing" and there are certain things that are impossible to move on from (let alone to be afraid of that prospect). you can't replace people and, yes, it's inhuman to demand that people stop grieving on your schedule.

for 9/11 specifically, it was more than all the people who died in the event itself. it was a political watershed which still echoes today, specifically in a series of wars in which even more people have died. think about the actions of isis, or the humanitarian crisis of the syrian civil war, or all the terrorist attacks throughout the world. it's tough to think about causes without thinking of 9/11.

I wasn't commenting in order to get more people to process it like me or trying to make the statement that my process is better. I was just curious if my attitude was odd.

I really appreciate the bigger picture of 9/11, actually watched the history channel documentary "road to 9/11" and thought it was interesting although it rushed through it and replaced what I felt should have been key information to the story and replaced it with more emotional and op-ed testimony. However, for me, post 9/11 is our reality, I don't need to reflect or take a moment of silence to understand why we are here now because I live it although my little insulated corner of the world and my little insignificant existence hasn't been altered much directly.

Really? That sentence makes sense, wouldn't P&R be a more appropriate place for a 9/11 remembrance, like this thread and the other 9/11 thread in P&R. Certainly more appropriate than the WL forum, unless that is some kind of a tradition. I guess that put's me on the spectrum.
