i have 96 in vision + 7 more from va.
6 in quick read.
play is set up to cycle thru the receivers.
i'm set to open man (-64)
throwing is at 160 or 166 depending on the build for that game

so why do i keep throwing into triple coverage? there's no checkdown at all to the other players.

i also keep throwing behind receivers.

I have my QB set to -100 open man...

Though I haven't OC'd in regular leagues in quite some time, there is or was a QB check down over-ride in packages...so maybe for that specific play your OC didn't have you checking down at all?

Edit: But I see you're the OC lol.

Could the QB be trying to play against the OC on his tactics?
Its not a knock as I tried Punters at QB if I ever get the chance,,,So I do not OC at All.

I feel setting custom checkdowns leads to QB "forcing" the pass to the 1st man in the list quite often.
Sticking to "reads" longer, not progressing thru the list - or at least it's very slow change from #1 → #2 → #3 etc (compared to checkdown = default).

Just a feeling, don't have any proof.

I'd assume, it's from QR combined with pressure setting.

Try 'play as usual'.

QR is famous for screwing up progressions. It's a bit late now, but maybe a truck load of Confidence could offset felt pressure and slow down QR panic throws.

If that doesn't work, you could try dialing up route distance, try +50 to see if there's a difference, then dial more or less from there.

F'n phone 15 edits later..

I have a theory!!! So, when Bort coded the game he made 'morale spirals' a part of the dynamics, right? Well... what if he coded in a reverse spiral on QB's based off of Confidence??? Consider that some QB's (RL) get SO confident after making a few amazing throws that they throw into double, triple, even quadruple coverage... then they get intercepted and, then after taking a hit to their confidence for such stupidity, they make more intelligent throws (for a while anyways until their confidence starts to spiral upwards again). Bort could've made it so that a high confidence QB that completes a series of passes gets TOO confident (spiral up) and throws a stupid pass into triple coverage, resulting in getting picked off (spiral down) !!! Something to ponder.

I remember Favre driving Mike Holmgren crazy with his dumb throws.
