GLB might be using the international soccer model** where away-goals are worth more than home goals. In JanPony's scenario, the combined head-to-head scores totaled 17-17, but Barrio scored 7 at Test while Test was shutout at Barrio.
Similarly, look at Tulsa vs Gurupies in the EPL West. Tulsa got the 3rd seed over Gurupies. Each had 9-7 records, and each won their head-to-head at home. Despite Tulsa being outscored in those h2h games, and despite Tulsa ALLOWING MORE total points over the course of the season, they still got the higher seed. But Tulsa scored 23 at Gurupies while giving up only 14 at home to them.
** Note that in real life, Americans always display their scores/matchups with the visiting team on top (or to the left) of the home team, whereas GLB does the opposite -- the international way.
I may be confused by your theory as I am not exactly a soccer guy. If I am reading it the way I think I am , than in Casual Pro, Last of the Mohicans would be the higher seed over Shoreline
Combined Head to Head ; Mohicans 33-30
Away points allowed : Mohicans 20, Shoreline, 30
Away Points Scored : Mohicans 30, Shoreline 20
Mohicans win all three in that scenario, so not sure that theory.formula is right.

one of Shoreline's losses was a blowout
I think I am onto something with this blowout adjusted
