NOVUS RANKINGS - AFTER 5 GAMES

01) Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies {CANADA} (5-0) (4-0 in-conference)
Handed Dallas their first loss of the season, and in impressive fashion, and a gimme with Drunk is up next. A return to World League is looking more and more likely.

02) Palm Bay Palookas {USA} (5-0) (4-0 in-conference)
The Palookas now have three-straight games with 55+ points on offense, and their lowest point total of the season is 31. But are teams starting to figure out their defense? They'll need to in order to keep up with Palm Bay's scoring.

03) KC's Metro Choppers {USA} (5-0) (4-0 in-conference)
Sleepwalked through a win over a CPU squad. Looking strong, but their hardest games are all still ahead of them, starting with Cincy up next.

04) Oseberg Vikings {CANADA} (5-0) (4-0 in-conference)
Picked up a solid 14-point win over Vicious Circle, and they face Dot Bilderberg next. They're not dominating, but they're earning that undefeated record one win at a time.

05) Choppin Broccoli {USA} (4-1) (3-1 in-conference)
Got back on track with an easy win over Hillbilly. Next up… a matchup with the South Georgia Growl that looked much more compelling in the pre-season than it does now.

06) Puffington Magic Dragons {CANADA} (4-1) (3-1 in-conference)
Puffington wrecked Grande, but up next is a tough matchup with a pesky Vicious Circle squad.

07) Burnside Bandits {CANADA} (4-1) (4-0 in-conference)
El Camino was an easy win, and The Gun Circus shouldn't be much tougher. Burnside is a tough squad, and they could make some noise this season.

08) Legacy's Runnin With The Real McCoys {CANADA} (5-0) (4-0 in-conference)
Still keeps feasting on a relatively weak schedule, and after dismantling The Gun Circus, Sunday Funday should be about as easy. I can't wait to see what the Real McCoys can do against some real opponents later this season.

09) Austin Wineswilling Fancy Boys {USA} (5-0) (4-0 in-conference)
Won an easy one over Nevada, and now gets another easy one over Chicago. I'm looking forward to seeing how Austin does when they get to the meat of their schedule later on.

10) Cobden Muskrats {CANADA} (3-2) (2-2 in-conference)
Got upset by Victoria, and that game really wasn't as close as the score makes it look. You have to take care of business if you want to stay at the top, and Cobden didn't. I think they'll bounce back against Dallas, though.

11) Dallas Paladins {CANADA} (4-1) (3-1 in-conference)
No shame in losing to the Duckies, but that was the only tough opponent Dallas has faced thus far. Can they do better against Cobden? The Muskrats have been tested far more thoroughly than the Paladins thus far.

12) Cincinnati Shockers {USA} (4-1) (4-0 in-conference)
Wallopped Tampa with one hand tied behind their backs, but now they face their toughest foe yet: KC Metro. How good is Cincy? We're about to find out.

13) College Station Aggies {USA} (4-1) (4-0 in-conference)
Thumped Chicago and gets a gimme against Tampa next. But their only quality win thus far, South Georgia, is suddenly in free-fall, and their punishment at the hands of the Duckies in Game 1 leaves a lot of doubt in my mind about the Aggies. Are they for real? We'll have to watch and find out later.

14) Vicious Circle {CANADA} (2-3) (1-3 in-conference)
Played Oseberg tough, but couldn't pull out the win. And it doesn't get any easier with Puffington up next. This is a feisty squad, though, so expect VC to put up a fight.

15) Victoria Teabaggers {CANADA} (2-3) (1-3 in-conference)
Finally got a quality win with a shocking upset over Cobden. Victoria may finally be shaking off their Chemistry issues, and their remaining schedule has a lot of winnable games, including Grande up next.

16) All The King's Royal Men {USA} (3-2) (3-1 in-conference)
The Royal Men may be hitting their stride now after an ugly start, and after trumping the Aces, they should be able to handle Nevada next.

17) Orlando Midget Mafia {USA} (1-4) (1-3 in-conference)
Orlando is still getting punished by their chemistry and their weak defense, but they're showing signs of life on offense and have a break agaisnt Southern up next. Don't count Orlando out yet.

18) State Of Franklin Patriots {USA} (2-3) (2-2 in-conference)
Turned some heads with a surprising demolition of South Georgia, but that may say more about the Growl than the Patriots. Still, that's gotta be a confidence booster for the Patriots, as will what should be an easy win over the Aces up next.

19) Dot Bilderberg Agency {CANADA} (2-3) (2-2 in-conference)
Tamed the Lions, but Oseberg is going to be more of a challenge for Bilderberg, and with their remaining schedule I still don't think they can make the playoffs.

20) BC Lions {CANADA} (2-3) (1-3 in-conference)
BC's offensive malaise continued with a 17-6 loss to Bilderberg. El Camino should be a win, but BC's playoff window will close soon if they can't start scoring points.

21) South Georgia Growl {USA} (1-4) (0-4 in-conference)
What happened? South Georgia appears to be in free-fall, losing to the Patriots by 42. They should be doing better than this, but they may have thrown in the towel on the season far earlier than they should've.

22) The Gun Circus {CANADA} (1-4) (1-3 in-conference)
Got crushed by The Real McCoys, and it may happen again at the hands of Burnside. This just isn't the year for the Circus.

23) Sunday Funday {CANADA} (2-3) (1-3 in-conference)

24) Nevada Farm Boys {USA} (1-4) (1-3 in-conference)
Got reigned in by Austin, and now facing another likely loss at the hands of the resurgent King's Men up next.

25) Chicago Bears 85 {USA} (1-4) (1-3 in-conference)
Just suffered their worst loss of the season to the Aggies, and that may get eclipsed when they face Austin next. Still, Chicago's schedule is front-loaded, so if they can recover against the easier back-half of their schedule, they could still steal a playoff spot. That may be a stretch, though.

26) GLB Gridiron Aces {USA} (0-5) (0-4 in-conference)
Another triple-digit shutout loss, and now they've only scored 14 points on offense in 5 games. Truly dreadful.

27) Hillbilly Coondogs {USA} (1-4) (0-4 in-conference)
Probably about the same as GLB Gridiron, but I gave Gridiron the edge for at least facing a tougher schedule so far.

28) El Camino {CANADA} (1-4) (1-3 in-conference)
Absolutely horrid in all phases. At least they beat Drunk Masterminds though.

29) Drunk Masterminds {CANADA} (0-5) (0-4 in-conference)
That is one ugly roster, but at least they've put some points on the board a couple of times.

30) Southern Storm {USA} (1-4) (1-3 in-conference)
CPU-owned. At least they beat Tampa Bay, though, thanks to not having to deal with the penalty that CPU dots get on human-owned teams like Tampa had to deal with.

31) Grande Torino {CANADA} (0-5) (0-4 in-conference)
Hard to get much worse than this. Only 15 human dots on the roster, and they're all terrible.

32) Tampa Bay Turbulence {USA} (0-5) (0-4 in-conference)
Empty-roster. Harmless team.

Thanks again. I enjoy these.

I agree, schedule has been easy. After SF, we have match ups with the Duckies, Cobden, and Dallas. Should let us know exactly where we stand.

5-0 not bad. Haven't watched a snap this season, but nice to see that we are at least on pace to compete for a playoff spot.

NOVUS RANKINGS - AFTER 6 GAMES

01) Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies {CANADA} (6-0) (5-0 in-conference)
The Duckies got a breather against Drunk, but now they face their toughest game yet: Runnin With The Real McCoys. But I think the Duckies are up to the challenge.

02) Palm Bay Palookas {USA} (6-0) (5-0 in-conference)
Took care of business with a triple-digit win over Hillbilly. Up next: a South Georgia squad that seems to have given up the season.

03) Oseberg Vikings {CANADA} (6-0) (5-0 in-conference)
Oseberg isn't making it look pretty, but they keep gutting out the close ones, this time a 4-point win over Bilderberg. Up next: a thrilling 10-point over El Camino, probably.

04) Choppin Broccoli {USA} (5-1) (4-1 in-conference)
Silenced the Growl, and will probably fold the Aces next. The results that Choppin consistently gets from their weak-looking roster just shows the skill of their game-planning.

05) Burnside Bandits {CANADA} (5-1) (5-0 in-conference)
Hung a hundred and a half on The Gun Circus, and faces Sunday Funday next. Burnside continues to impress, but their toughest games are still to come.

06) Cincinnati Shockers {USA} (5-1) (5-0 in-conference)
Question answered: Cincy is good, as shown by their 3-point win over KC Metro. Their season-opening loss to a suddenly-moribund Cobden squad is starting to look more and more like an anomaly. Next up: a gimme with Southern.

07) Puffington Magic Dragons {CANADA} (5-1) (4-1 in-conference)
Survived Vicious Circle with a 3-point win, and faces another upset-minded squad next: Bilderberg. But I think the Dragons can keep on flying for a while longer.

08) KC's Metro Choppers {USA} (5-1) (4-1 in-conference)
KC's 3-point loss to Cincy opens up some big questions about their defense, but their O is still good enough to hang with anybody. Up next: another tough test with College Station.

09) Legacy's Runnin With The Real McCoys {CANADA} (6-0) (5-0 in-conference)
Wallopped Sunday Funday by 69, but now the easy part is done. Up next: the Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies. Are the Real McCoys for real? We're about to find out.

10) Dallas Paladins {CANADA} (5-1) (4-1 in-conference)
Picked up a surprisingly easy victory over Cobden. I still have some doubts though after their lackluster showing against the awful Gun Circus and their big loss to the Duckies, but a win over Victoria next would go a long way toward silencing some of those doubts.

11) Austin Wineswilling Fancy Boys {USA} (6-0) (5-0 in-conference)
Austin has yet to play a team with more than 1 win this season, and with Tampa up next, that still won't change. Hard to know how seriously to take that 0 in their loss column.

12) College Station Aggies {USA} (5-1) (5-0 in-conference)
Another team with a weak schedule so far, not helped by their 255-0 detonation of Tampa. But that's about to change, as they face KC Metro next in a game that the Aggies are capable of winning if they can contain KC Metro's high-scoring offense.

13) Vicious Circle {CANADA} (2-4) (1-4 in-conference)
Another tough loss for Vicious Circle, this time by 3 points to Puffington. VC has proven they can play with the big boys in this league, but they havne't proven yet that they can actually beat them. But with Grande Torino up next, they'll get a much-needed chance to re-group.

14) Victoria Teabaggers {CANADA} (3-3) (2-3 in-conference)
Victoria's earlier win over Cobden suddenly isn't looking as impressive and beating Grande certainly is no big deal either. But Victoria played the Duckies close earlier this season, so I give them a good chance of beating Dallas next.

15) All The King's Royal Men {USA} (4-2) (4-1 in-conference)
Easily roped in Nevada, and Chicago shouldn't much more of a match for the Royal Men. Suddenly looking hot, but it's hard to overlook their two straight losses to start the season.

16) Cobden Muskrats {CANADA} (3-3) (2-3 in-conference)
Cobden's win over Cincy in Game 1 and their strong showing against the Duckies earlier are suddenly looking more and more like anomalies. Dallas absolutely pasted Cobden, and I'm starting to think I over-estimated how good the Muskrats are. They should have no problem with Drunk next game, but Cobden needs to step up their game in a hurry or else risk squandering their excellent roster.

17) Orlando Midget Mafia {USA} (2-4) (2-3 in-conference)
Orlando finally gets to cash in on some easy wins to build confidence and momentum as their Chemistry continues to climb. Southern was no problem, and Hillbilly won't be either.

18) State Of Franklin Patriots {USA} (3-3) (3-2 in-conference)
Followed their win over the Growl with another win over the Aces, with Nevada up next. I may have underestimated the Patriots before, because they're looking more and more like a dark-horse for the playoffs. Gotta keep winning the easy wins, though.

19) Dot Bilderberg Agency {CANADA} (2-4) (2-3 in-conference)
Gave Oseberg a scare but ultimately fell short. Still, Bilderberg is pesky enough to give anyone a fight, and I expect them to hold up well against Puffington. Winning, however, is another story.

20) BC Lions {CANADA} (3-3) (2-3 in-conference)
Crashed El Camino, and should have no problem with The Gun Circus. I say "should," because BC has the sort of offense that can lose to anyone, so we'll have to see what happens.

21) Sunday Funday {CANADA} (2-4) (1-4 in-conference)

22) South Georgia Growl {USA} (1-5) (0-5 in-conference)
After an early win over The Gun Circus, the Growl have dropped 5 straight, and I'm more convinced than ever that they gave up on this season way too soon. With Palm Bay up next, that streak will probably grow to 6.

23) Nevada Farm Boys {USA} (1-5) (1-4 in-conference)
The outmatched Farm Boys got trashed by the Royal Men. State of Franklin should be easier, but I doubt Nevada has what it takes to beat a Patriots squad that looks like they may be finally getting their act together.

24) Chicago Bears 85 {USA} (1-5) (1-4 in-conference)
Chicago still shouldn't give up on the season yet… they have a LOT of winnable games left on their schedule. But a 92-point loss to Austin sure didn't help their chances. An upset of the Royal Men would be a boon, but it's not very likely.

25) The Gun Circus {CANADA} (1-5) (1-4 in-conference)
Lost to Burnside by 150. BC is up next, and that game is winnable, but only if BC's offensive struggles continue.

26) GLB Gridiron Aces {USA} (0-6) (0-5 in-conference)
Their schedule has been tough, but come on… 2.8 points per game on offense? That's just awful.

27) Hillbilly Coondogs {USA} (1-5) (0-5 in-conference)
Probably about the same as GLB Gridiron, but I think the Aces would beat Hillbilly head-to-head.

28) El Camino {CANADA} (1-5) (1-4 in-conference)
Absolutely horrid in all phases. At least they beat Drunk Masterminds though.

29) Southern Storm {USA} (1-5) (1-4 in-conference)
CPU-owned. At least they beat Tampa Bay, though, thanks to not having to deal with the penalty that CPU dots get on human-owned teams like Tampa had to deal with.

30) Drunk Masterminds {CANADA} (0-6) (0-5 in-conference)
That is one ugly roster, but at least they've put some points on the board a couple of times.

31) Grande Torino {CANADA} (0-6) (0-5 in-conference)
Hard to get much worse than this. Only 15 human dots on the roster, and they're all terrible.

32) Tampa Bay Turbulence {USA} (0-6) (0-5 in-conference)
Empty-roster. Harmless team.

Head-to-head matters in my rankings, but it's not the only thing I look at, especially if it was a close win. I look at a lot of things... strength-of-schedule, quality wins, margin of victory, roster, previous history, plus a good ol'-fashioned dose of gut feelings.

If it's any consolation for you, all the top teams are VERY close to each other to my eyes right now, so there's not really that much difference between, say, #1 and #10 right now. But there were several game results this round that made me want to take a fresh look at everyone and shuffle things around a bit.
