I think there is a fine line between inquiring about a sale and demanding one. That being said, I think the powers that be consider any inquiry as a demand when it's clearly not the case. From a business standpoint, I'd gladly announce sales throughout the year, coupled with reward point bonuses. Overall, I think the user-base tends to spend more, not less, when these happen. Unfortunately, it appears the admin-base doesn't share this same theory.
Sans sales, I'd be inclined to spend exactly what's needed to get me through the season, calculate retirement refunds, and limit my creation throughout the year.
With sales (discount or reward points), I build like a fool, keep dots alive way past the point I realize they are going to be mediocre, and run multiple "test" dots throughout the calendar year. I also tend to donate more flex to team funds, create "just one more dot" on a whim for people who ask, extend team ownerships longer, and swap out custom eq like crazy.
Sales are the way to go imo. Locking threads that ask about them like GLB is doing me a favor is asinine. GLB is doing itself a favor by running sales and driving the user-base away every time it's actions suggest otherwise. Yeah, I get that some people aren't full of tact or are uncouth when inquiring about sales but ultimately, we're asking you (GLB) what's the best time to spend the most money. Maybe welcome the questions for a change. Your bottom line may like the results
