they are all infected but only turn into the zombie once they die. as i recall from earlier deaths, the bitten area can cause death thru the fever so cut the leg off and the person is more likely to live. but no way in hell do i give mouth to mouth to a dead person.
What's more likely to kill a 70-year old, a bite or a dozen axe chops to the femur [Edit: lower leg]?

in zombie world, a bite is more dangerous. the bite is 100% lethal, if not immediately "treated" thats why they had to kill the big guy once he got bitten.

Its 100% lethal because of "Mysterious Zombie Virus A" that even the CDC and other nations couldn't figure if its microbial, viral or whatnot. Here's the thing ... apparently everyone is contaminated with it anyway. The shock alone of whacking through 2 bones without anesthesia is 100% lethal on that old dude.
Apparently, if they had some hydrogen peroxide, Hershel could walk again.

And, in that world, getting bitten is 100% lethal for whatever reason, but chopping off his leg isn't apparently
