Well, we're half-way home and most of the exciting games are about to take place, but I wanted to stop and give an updated rankings. I expect Terry to tell me I'm wrong in a few places soon (yeah I called you out for not doing a ranking recently....). Alpha is pretty straight forward right now, but I don't expect that to last long. The Big 4 in Zeta are still the Big 4. No surprises there (regular season at least). Anyway, here they are. Number in parentheses is the preseason ranking from http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=4763599.

Alpha Top 8

(Same 8 as pre-season and 5 in the same spot. Did I tell you I was a genius?)

1. PCJ (4): They are the lone undefeated team in Alpha, so they are ranked #1. Do I think they'll end at #1. No, but they are #1 for now. They only have 1 quality regular season victory and that is over NHG 10-9. In that game, NHG missed a 23 yard FG with 3 1/2 minutes left in regulation. NHG also punted with 17 sec left with the ball in PCJ territory (sketchy sim call). PCJ did out gain NHG in total yard though. PCJ also have a bad Tourney loss to RR. Their next 4 games will be telling (RB, RMO, BW, RB (GLB Tourney)).

2. NHG (2): Well, NHG lost to PCJ and beat RD 13-3. They also own a convincing win over Hood 76-17. The RD win was at home and had a Mini-Helmet Day Promotion. However, they have a Tournament loss to RD as well as ECT. Great ST help and NHG have one of the best. They are also 3rd in total offense, which is improved from last season.

3. RD (1): RD lost to NHG, but beat RMO 9-6. That game was at home without a promotion, but RD did use a promotion on BW to win 75-0... MN got the best of them in the GLB Tourney but they get another shot at them tomorrow in another tournament. Well balanced team (4th in O and 4th in D) and I think they are the Vegas favorites to win the conference despite the 3rd place ranking.

4. RMO (3): RMO lost to RD, but beat RB 13-6 (Do you see the trend yet?). That game was also at home. I want to see a team from this conference get a quality road win. A 6-9 loss to ECT in the GLB Tournament is very respectable, but it doesn't help you in the rankings. RMO tends to falter in the post season, so an early exit wouldn't be a surprise here.

5. RB (5): Losses to RD and RMO. They were both on the road and the RMO game was particularly close. The game against Hood on Monday is more than likely what determines 5th and 6th place. Brutal schedule playing the top 4 teams all on the road. Interestingly, they got crushed by ECT in two meaningless scrimmages, before stuffing them 20-17 in the GLB Tourney despite an INT and 3 Fumbles (only 1 lost). Rodger Dodger was picked off twice and ECT's only TD was Dezerious (go figure....).

6. Hood (6): They got crushed by NHG, but they did beat UD, so that locks up 6th place (RB Monday for a shot at 5th). MN also crushed them in a Tournament game. They're just an average team beating all the teams they are supposed to.

7. UD (7): Much to Arayel's chagrin, UD will be making the playoffs again. The 41-7 beatdown they handed to BW sealed that. Hopefully, this will be the last season of semi-competitive LU teams and we can get rid of them (no offense, but LU is LU not "real" GLB).

8. BW (8): They have beaten SRR, which is the 9th best team IMO, so they will be in the playoffs. I would venture to guess that their first round loss will be the winner of akinghorn's little bet. The playoff sim seems to favor larger victories in the lopsided games IMO.

Zeta Top 8
(Top 4 are the same. I said I should have ranked the LU teams 5-8, but I was lazy and they're 6, 7, and 8 now...)

1. MN (1): What? You thought I was gong to drop them when their only loss this season is to a Semi-Pro team? Damn, I want some of that shit you're smoking... No, in seriousness with ECT and DN at home, I see Melissa taking her team to new levels with their first 16-0 regular season and potentially their first 20-0 season. This team is rolling right now. No flaws, no weaknesses (1st in O, 2nd in D, 1st in ST). Almost the trifecta.

2. ECT (2): The other undefeated team in Zeta. They beat DN 19-6 on the road. This would be the opposite of MN (2nd O, 1st D, 2nd ST). The big game is Wednesday, and MN is at home and will have a minimum of free nachos on their side. That being said, I don't think it will matter if that game is anything like their two ranked scrimmages on back to back days. Both MN blowout wins. They also have the slip up to RB, so they can be beat.

3. DN (3): Not a whole lot to add here. They get MN tomorrow on the road and RR at home on Black Friday (this is the bigger game). No tournaments, so not a lot else to say. The -2 TO ratio should be a concern.

4. RR (4): The off-season acquisitions seem to be taking a while to get used to. What is this offensive game-planning crap? Last season I just set it to 100% run, 100% run outside, 50% HB, 50% QB and sat back and watched my running game run all over most teams. Not the case this season. However, Knocking Boots is 2nd in Offensive MVP! Bort please fix that. Rome is just a bottom tier "top team". 9th in O, 10th in D, and 4th in ST isn't bad, but it won't win championships. However, the +10 TO differential is much improved over last season. We're forcing a lot of fumbles, which we rarely did last season.

5. FV (7): FV may be the best of the rest. Mediocre O and D. No bad losses, but a very back-loaded schedule up coming. They could be the 5 seed or miss the playoffs entirely (the latter is doubtful).

6. 80's (NR): They lost to both Gotland and Super Sexy in LU, but beat them both in GLB, so I guess they deserve the 6 seed. Really that is just unlucky for them as I figure they would rather win LU AND miss the playoffs and drop to Competitive #2 and have a chance to win gold. We will see if they can keep it up.

7. GG (NR): Slightly better league rankings that 80's, but they lost to them, so they're ranked below them. Probably actually the 6th best team, but they won't be competition in the first round of the playoffs.

8. LIL (NR): Which 3-5 team do I pick? Hmmm, how about this one?!?!? Another LU team that is struggling to score. They did get 195 in a blowout win over West Lawn, but they've been shutout 3 times already. I expect that trend to continue with DN and ECT left...

Overall Top 10

1. MN (1) - best of the best
2. RD (3) - played MN close, lost to the Gators
3. ECT (2) - take a step back after the MN drubbings and the RB loss
4. RMO (7) - close game with ECT
5. NHG (5) - 3 losses to ECT, RD, and PCJ. Good win over RD though...
6. DN (4) - nothing to base them off of other than 2 preseason losses (play a tourney)
7. RR (6) - needs some more time to work out the kinks
8. PCJ (8) - 8-0 now, but I just feel that won't last long (see the 50-14 beat down Rome gave them)
9. RB (9) - one year away, but it's good to have them back
10. Hood (10) - by default. Not in the same class as the top 9

I know the Overall Rankings don't match the Conference Rankings. Conference is more where you stand today and Overall is more what I actually think of your team in the long run.

EDITS: for grammar...

Was hoping no one would notice the Rising win over ECT in the Tourney. I don't want anyone to take RB seriously yet. Still a long way away.

Agree with all the above ! Always good entertainment to read these team guesstimates. Rising Brownies are very pleased to even be mentioned in the same paragraph as these long term Elite League standard bearers.

Great read - but come on - using my extreme dislike for BW and using a promotion in an attempt to thrash them even worse is no way downgrade the team

Bah! That's more like an American Thanksgiving gift (*gobble, gobble*). Christmas can be a Championship win, please...it's all I've asked from Santa this year - a big shiny gold and to end your bloody reign in Casual....
