Never built a HB before and just tried one this season. I decided to go agility first. Hasn't been to bad. He seems to break a lot of tackles. My question is, did I screw this up for a chance to be competitive long term?

No you didn't, but you'll need to take speed to 81 and then get it in your multi training and get 4+ attribute gains in speed while multi training it.
That being said he could VERY effectively use spin and fakes if you build it right and get his strength to 70+ and carrying to 79+.

I am currently training Speed/Vision/Carrying and Strength all with +2 upgrades. Agility is at 77.5 at level 14. Should I take it to 80 or higher now or start sticking SP's in speed now? Thanks for your help guys.

77 for agi should be enough since it was your 1st att. Just work on getting speed to 81 atleast.

If you just built him this season then speed to 87 natural is the key if you plan on keeping him.

You're going to want 90+ natural speed, otherwise it's not gonna matter what else you can do.

I would stop at the 40% enhancement, the last enhancement doesn't add enough value to justify the cost especially when training an attribute that is over 81.

Not sure if I can agree....even if I'm only getting 10% at the 10th cap I'm getting one SP per train. You can take that down even further...say you only get 5% per train...that is still a .5 SP per train....to me that is huge.

Due to the way bort has the decimals roll over the 10% increase results in a net training percent increase of zero at quite a few places when you are training and getting single digit training gains.
For instance say training gets you 4.7% for each training session.
With the 40% enhancement you are getting a 6.6% training session. These both round up to the nearest whole number so, un-enhanced you get 5%, 40% enhancement gets you 7%. If you add another 10% and you have a 50% enhancement you are now getting a 7.1% training session. However that rounds down to 7%.
Rage and others are currently trying to get Bort to change the way the decimals are calculated so that we all get our real training values, but currently that's not happening and it can mean huge losses/gains when the decimals are rounded over a large number of training sessions.
That's why I suggested stopping at 40 if the majority of the training would be past 81 as at that point the bonus tokens you spend for that extra 10% only really give you a gain on a few of your training sessions, and not on all of them like is commonly expected.
