You are missing the point.

You are not comparing current age 200 dots to current age 250 dots.

The old effective level were comparing players made in say.. S16 to players made in S6. The effective levels were out of date, most everyone knew that.

The new values are up to date and correct now. You are thinking that the new values to reach up to 85 just extended from the previously used values. That is incorrect.

Here's a more concrete, but hypothetical example, that may help you understand.

Previous System: Player value of a level 60 HB might have been 1k with an effective level of 70.
Current System: Player value of a level 60 HB (lets use this guy http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2108204 ) is near 1k and effective level of 60.

So if you had a HB yesterday that had 1k player value and was listed with an effective value of say.. 70, today he still has a player value of 1k but is ranked as an effective value of 60.

You lost nothing, it is simple using more correct or up to date values.

And i'll add, if bort doesn't run this again for 8 seasons, you will see the same (though to a lesser degree since more builds are built this way now) thing happen again where player values get higher and higher, stretching where they are listed as their effective level until the next update.

If their effective level is so low they should be rather useless and completely overmatched. Since that isn't the case, what am I supposed to glean from the effective level? Who are my guys being compared to that their effective level has plummeted? A change in effective level of 18-22 from one day to the next seems absurd. In reviewing the builds for some of my guys I'm thinking this whole effective level thing is bullshat.

Since I have a DE the same age as your DE, we can compare(technically yours had a full off-season of training(Day41/Day0)) .
B.D.McGee 60/62 977.69 http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2048658
Kenard Wang 67/56 884.68 http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=1988444
That is a +93 point difference for my player, even though he is 7 levels lower.

You realize that absolutely nothing changed other than a rating changed to update to current levels right? Your player is exactly the same today as he was yesterday except now instead of having an erroneous value that made no sense is now changed to show a comparison to actual up to date values.

I really don't get all this rage about such a minor change. Your 'player thats build solid' is exactly the same as he was. Loading speed has nothing to do with the value, it's total Skill point's applied to the player. You could say that a player with any high value attribute gets the same result. Not just speed. Effective level doesn't even mean a player is built well, as can be seen by thegreatpuma's player http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=1947716

Seriously. Did this many people think they had good dots before when they were 49/59 and everyone else was 49/75?

GLB needs an "easy mode" where your effective level has an artificial 20 levels boost to make you feel better about the fact that your dot is not built very efficiently.

Get on it Bort!

Should have left it how it was, or gotten rid of it completely. Negative perception whether silly to some or not, is never good for business.

But thats like saying no team should have a losing record because it's a negative perception on someone's team and they will get mad and quit.

Again, all that happened was effective level was fixed. if it hurt some people's feelings to find out they didn't build as effective a player as someone else, it's just too bad. How is leaving incorrect values, just because people feel good about their level 63/75 guy thinking it's as good as the level other level 63/75 guy who has 300 more SP applied to his player?

They fixed it, people will get over this.

I wonder just how good of a measuring tool effective levels really are. Take O linemen as an example. Popular culture tends to lean towards strength, blocking and agility as the top three attributes. In either archetype one of these three are a minor skill. So if the majority of agents address these three attributes with top priority, an agent who treats major attributes with the same priority will end up with a higher effective level. The question is which player is better in the sim?

+1

Bort should have got it right the first time or got rid of it all together. I mean it served its original purpose which was to determine if SSB was as big of a problem as everybody thought.

Actually, the damage has already been done. The people who were on the edge most likely got pushed over today. The rest are a step closer than they were yesterday. I hope bort and catch learn from this because I still like this game.
