Earthquake waves travel much further in the eastern part of the USA than they do in the western part of the USA. The soil and rock types are different, plus the west is more mountainous, with the numerous mountain ranges out there limiting the reach of earthquakes.
Check out this map, which compares one of the New Madrid, Missouri earthquakes from 1895 with the Northridge, California quake from 1994. Both very similar in strength, but the New Madrid quake was felt over a MUCH wider area. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2c/NMSZ_Vergleich.jpg
Another even stronger quake from New Madrid later that year cracked sidewalks in Washington DC and damaged chimneys in Maine.
And as yet another example, a 7.3 in Charleston, South Carolina in 1886 damaged buildings as far away as Ohio and Kentucky.
So, sorry, but a 5.9 in the east is a big earthquake. And if it had been centered more directly underneath Washington, DC, they would've seen far more damage... like what Christchurch, New Zealand just went through a few weeks ago when they had a 6.0 centered basically right underneath their city. Go ahead, tell Christchurch they didn't have a big earthquake either.
Looks like Novus threw out some E-Sass at Spin! How will Spin counter the "So, sorry" and the powerful tandem of sarcasm, emotion, and facts!?!?!

The earthquake's epicenter was about 10-20 miles outside Richmond, VA. I'm from Atlantic City...and their were pictures falling off the wall and glasses falling out of the cabinets, not to mention the casinos were >< this close to shutting down, and they've stood through hurricanes with damn near thousands of people running there for shelter.
That shit was serious for about 5 long minutes....
Was in Buffalo and I felt it there. Grew up in southern California and I can tell you first hand that was very different then west coast earthquakes. Was like someone was running a washing machine on the other side of the hotel wall. And that was Buffalo, NY! Honestly I was like 'i'm on the fucking east coast..... that couldn't have been an earthquake.' Then I saw it happened in Virginia lol. I mean thats got some distance.
Northridge earthquake was felt like that down the coast and other states but other than that a 5.9 isn't going to be felt anywhere but around California.

Heh, I live in Buffalo but am out of town in Montreal this week - didn't feel anything there. Too bad.
I'm calling it now, Seismos start the new season 0-3 after drawing Lycans in the OOC game (thanks bort), then Laos (they'll use a promo, they always do), then LoDD (they always gameplan for regular season games). Anybody else get a trainwreck of a schedule to start the season?

Green Men got LoDD, Manchester, and Beograd as 3 of their first 4 games.
