Nope special teams is not included in these rankings. Mostly because I haven't been able to figure out how to really rate them properly but I do welcome advice and suggestions. I'm more then happy to update the ratings to be something more reflective of accuracy in the eyes of the public

There's only 3 major things special teams effect that can alter the course of the games (yes... I know there's much more, but only 3 things top them all). Return yardage sets field position. Missed FG's and XP's can cost games. And returns for scores can win games. If there's a way to simply track those 3 things then you probably can come up with a ranking for their combined effect, giving you a number to plug into the formula. Just my guess here.

It could just be based on:
average return yardage (as compared to the league)
total return touchdowns (as compared to the league)
average return yardage against (as compared to the league)
total return touchdowns against (as compared to the league)
total FG percent (as compared to the league)
total XP percent (as compared to the league)

Essentially do similar to the SOS formula, in that your ultimate goal would be to have a "1" in each category, or to be the best, and then the other teams would receive a decimal number based on its relationship to the best in the catagory.

Obviously provide only an average of these in your output, because if I wanted to know that stuff I'd look.

I'd only consider special teams to be around 5% of a teams total success and shouldn't be weighted any higher than that.

I can't think of any other important special team stats, tackles is just kind of ehh... and any consideration of the "total" FGs/XPs/Punts would be a bit biased towards teams involved in blowouts, but could be treated the same way if you think it necessary.

What is the exact formula you are currently using? Might be good to get feedback on how people even feel about the current formula in general. Sounds like you do things like give even weighting to wins and sos as you do for passing yards or rushing defense and maybe they shouldn't be weighted the same way. Maybe some categories should be worth more then others?

lol, at least your rankings is treating us appropriately. Our strength of schedule shows that while we have not lost, we keep going down in the rankings likely because of our weak schedule. I agree with that and let's see what happens after we play the big 3.

That is a brutal schedule but I think the next 3 weeks is pretty much like a mini-playoffs of sorts to see who would win the championship.

Likely not, these teams will likely mostly be running their basic AI, or even a screwy one to avoid giving too much up before a likely upcoming playoff game, at least I think...

Yeah, we figured this would be the case for our last games. Crib is not testing anything or doing anything crazy and we are trying to win these games, but without showing all our cards so close to playoffs. Make no mistake that we are not throwing these games and we are going to do our best to win them but not at the expensive of our playoff strategy.
