I like the idea as well.

Dublin Cup for Zeta and Rogers Cup for Alpha.

Then Iīm throwing in again the Atomium ball for the overall winner.

The team that comes in last should win the Jaycup imo

Not only was Mike one of the early mainstays in WEPL, he also was/is an overall good guy, and was one of the early testers and heavily involved in some of the improvements that were made to GLB. I still think it would be more than appropriate to name the Alpha if not even the league trophy after him.

Last thread like this which can still be found on page 2: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=3589500

Wow... After reading that, Iīll go with "Mike Rogers" too! But if we decide to ad that name just for the Alpha Conference Iīd name the Finals as "Imperium Bowl" (Imperium in latin means Empire)

OP updated w/ ideas thus far... I was involved peripherally w/ a WELP Pro team many moons ago and recall Rogers as a p good cat so fully support that idea. And well, the rationale for the Zeta winner claiming the Dublin cup seems understandable as well so I'm equally on board there.

Thanks to rtconner for the background btw.

I will check w/ Skoll on my team about creating the graphics. It looks like that's where the prior thread died.

I like the couple of options for the title game. But what about the championship trophy? Maybe something to do w/ Napoleon or Caesar?

Please make the suggestion to be "Mike Rogers Trophy", just Rogers sounds way too generic in my opinion, and after all it's the "Vince Lombardi Trophy" too, right?

I also wouldn't mind to see the league trophy named after Mike, but would be ok with it being the Conference one.

Not too keen at all on anything like Atomium, Caesar or Napoleon for the league trophy name, all those are rather regional in significance really, if anything I feel the trophy should be named after something that signifies all of (western) Europe.

As for the design of the league trophy, how about we go with the former NFL Europe trophy? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/46/World_Bowl_Trophy.jpg/300px-World_Bowl_Trophy.jpg

Too generical names... Itīs very difficult to give a single name since there are many countries in Europe with many traditions, cultures and famous people around.

Roman civilization was the origin of European values, culture and people so I think we should name it somehow related to it..: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Roman_Empire_Map.png

Iīd go with Imperium for the tittle game and, probably, if we need a name for the Trophy, Iīd use: Christopher Columbus Trophy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Columbus

Actually you will find that the Greeks are probably way more relevant than the Romans for many of the values and culture. Actually thinking along that line maybe calling the title game the Olymp might work.

And what significance exactly has Columbus to Europe? Would be more relevant for America really if you think about it.

hmmm... maybe we ought to go w/ something based in Greek mythology then? Was there a god of sport? I readily admit to my ignorance on the subject matter.

Well, you may be rigth in terms of "who came first"; Greeks settled some principles and ideas but Romanīs influence is much more since their civilization lasted much more... In many cities around Europe you will find lots and lots of Romans monuments and, even Christianism was rooted inside the Roman Empire.

You can even find some Roman roads in my country (Spain) which are still used in the countryside!

And related to Columbus; well, itīs very difficult to choose a single name out from hundreds of important European guys so I thought that the one that created the link between Europe and America would be a nice one!

Everyone knows that the Irish have contributed more to civilization: Irish Whiskey, Guinness, The IRA, Hurling, and Robbie and Roy Keane.

I say that Sweden (Stockholm in particular) has contributed the most principles and ideas and influence to Western Europe of anyone.

Well as far as Chistopher Columbus you look at him like a bridge to a new World to the people of that time. He left Europe and discovered a whole new World.Same with this League. Like CC when a team wins the WEPL they will embark on a journey and discover a whole new World as well. World League!!
