Well here we are at the big game of the year, Championship. It doesn't quite mean as much as winning Silver to advance to Gold as it seems a lot of teams will move up either way, but this one is for bragging rights and a pretty trophy! ^^; Should be a real interesting game.
Championship Game
------------------
West #3 Easy Eagles vs. East #1 Spaniard Linces
We'll start with the underdog Eagles in this one. They're coming off a big win where they dethroned the #1 undefeated GLB team. It was a close game but they made the big plays when it mattered, and were able to hold the GLB offense out of the end zone a majority of the time they got close. Looking at the stats is deceiving though as they were definitely dependent on the big plays, but honestly who wouldn't take the big plays that score. Their defense may have given up some big yards too, but buckled down when it matter most. In order for them to do well this game they're going to need to do the same, with hopefully a little more consistent production from the offense. They did a very good job of mixing up the offense, now just need the production.
Now to the Linces. They to mixed up the offense very well supported by a very good passing game. They were also able to move the ball on the ground with some pretty good results. There game with the Crabs was very close on paper and comparing stats, difference was that Linces put the ball in the end zone, Crabs weren't able to follow suit. From what I've seen from them during the season and playoffs is that their D is very solid. They play conservative for the most part, but will bring the pain in certain situations to throw the other team off. They will definitely play more of a react and contain type of defense though, which is good. They'll let the other team make the mistakes and capitalize on them, you won't see this defense beating themselves.
Keys to the Game:
Linces: Keep the consistent well oiled offense on the field. Hit them with the run and the pass, don't let them get comfortable trying to just stop you one way. As far as the defense goes, stop the big plays. Eagles showed last game they're capable of anything any play, keep them in front of you and let them beat themselves.
Eagles: Make some plays on defense! An Int or recovered fumble could really sway things in favor of the Eagles in this one. Bring a solid, consistent defense into the game and you have a good chance. As far as the offensive side of the ball goes, you need to keep possession and limit mistakes. Hopefully they can bring a new wrinkle to the game that Linces won't be expecting that will tip the scales in their favor.
Winner: Linces 30 - Eagles 10
-------------------------------------------
I just don't see Linces defense letting Easy make those big plays that they're going to need. Their offense is also more versatile then any they've faced so far. And don't forget Linces have a pretty big level advantage as all their guys have boosted. Linces may even score a bit more then 30, but I don't see Eagles scoring much more then 10-14.
Best of luck guys, and hope to see everyone in some sense next season in Silver.
Thanks for the great season, and the positive feedback to my write-ups, definitely made me not mind doing them at all for a great bunch of owners/agents of Copper 16! Cheers boys.
