NP.

Could you post the energy results from that game. I never saw the justification for the Distance Runner part of the test.

Thanks!

The only cost to run another test more than once is time. I offer my time in exchange.

It may work. It may not. I personally don't feel there is enough evidence yet to prove this VA works or does not work. KOS is the main goal for me personally. I have little interest in returns. Since we cannot prove if it works on KOS I would like more evidence to prove it works on kick returns. I can accept that if one works the other should as well.

Please allow another test. What can I do to help this happen? It may only further prove you were right. I have no problem admitting I was mistaken if we can prove that the VA works as described.

I am not convinced it can't be proven, but fully understand that there was time that was put into this to get what results we could, and the need to move on to other things.

I don't accept that if it works for one, it works for the other. It all depends on how it was coded.

Consider this example:
Kick Return= Play = Special Teams
Kickoff = Play = Special Team

Set Special Teamer to work if Play = Special Teams

In this example, a simple typo causes it to work for one and not the other. A missing bracket could do the same thing, it all depends on how the VA is written and what causes it to fire.

^ Good point. I have actually made this exact mistake coding other things myself. It tends to happen when mixing old code with new code or simple typos.

I think the code deserves another look if nothing else.

I still like the idea of comparing a player with equal skills to what the special teamer VA would give in bonuses. I am not sure why this is considered a waist of time. My offer to help is still open for this issue. Let me waist my time. It cannot hurt.

Yes, moving around to get to the ball carrier or to block tacklers could certainly affect your speed. Like I said, there's no way it would actually REDUCE your speed to add the VA. I just looked and there is definitely a + involved.

There you go.

Can we still try the idea for another test above? I think the new idea has a better chance to find a problem if one exists. It can also prove there is nothing wrong. I just don't see enough information in the original test that proves that the special teamer VA does anything positive for a player.

Again I offer my time. You have nothing to lose and can gain more knowledge on this topic.

No, we won't be. Too much other stuff to worry about and test. Locking this thread as it is resolved as far as I'm concerned since Bort has spoken.

For the purposes of the test, I paid particular attention to KOR's because it is the one play where the special teams players turn around and sprint downfield (on kickoffs, the players make adjustments to where the ball is heading and to avoid potential blockers).

Plays
1st quarter
1st KOR of quarter

Last KOR of quarter

At time ball is caught in both plays:

KRS One further downfield than KRS Nine.
KRS Three further downfield than KRS Five who is further downfield than KRS Eight.
KRS Two further downfield than KRS Ten.
KRS Four further upfield (moving to meet defense) than KRS Six who is slightly further upfield of KRS Seven.

Conclusion: Special Teamer/Distance Runner VA working as intended

I also watched the behavior of players in all other aspects of special teams and the players with Special Teamer/Distance Runner for the majority of plays were better than their counterparts, either at getting to the ball quicker or making blocks.

Final Conclusion: Working as intended
