With some STUNNING upsets, and really close games, here is one's man opinion of the remaining teams:
1) Sudbury Spartans
The team to beat now that the Sasquatches have been eliminated, they have the leagues longest win streak at 9. Their last loss came to a team still in the playoffs though, the QC Black Cats. However, when they played the Hashishim not too long ago, they put a pretty good whooping on them 27-12. The team able to control the line of scrimmage will win this game, but I don't foresee an upset of this team.
Win over Halifax: 31-17
2) Queen City Black Cats
They scored the most points in the 1'st round of the playoffs. The only possession they didn't score a TD on was their very last possession, when they simply tried to run out the clock. Now they host the Husker Maniacs, who they beat just several games ago. Can they repeat their performance against a very good Nebraska team?
Prediction: Toss up
3) Halifax Hashishim
The disadvantage of being the #3 seed: Win in the 1'st round, then not only do you get no more home playoff games, but you also have to play Sudbury, clearly the best team remaining. However, Halifax is feeling confident after their come from behind victory over the Air Force. Will that carry them through the next game to the Eastern Conference Championship? We'll find out soon.
Loss at Sudbury: 17-31
4) Vancouver Vindicators
The only team in the West not to lose in an upset, they forced Winnipeg into bad plays and came away with the victory. Now they get the Thunder, who they beat by three in the regular season not too long ago. I don't expect this to go to overtime, but it will be close.
Win over Calgary Thunder: 24-21
5) Saskatchewan Beavers
They pulled off the biggest upset of the 1'st round, possibly the biggest upset of the year, in their win over the Sasquatches. Their new GM is claiming all the credit, but can he continue his self proclaimed fantastic game planning for three more games? Only time will tell...
Win over Manitoba 39-28
6) Nebraska Husker Maniacs
Their GM said they'd win...and although they didn't win big, they did win. Most impressively was how they shut down the Salty Dogs run game...but can they do it again this week against the formidable Black Cats? This should be a great game.
Prediction: Toss up
7) Manitoba Icemen
I've got to give them credit for going out and playing a magnificent game against the Vikings, who were possibly the most talented team on paper. Holding the Vikings to just six points is unbelievable, but they did it. Now, can they repeat that against the Beavers, who put up 49 on them in the regular season? I think this will be a high scoring game.
Loss vs Beavers 28-39
8) Calgary Thunder
They pulled off a stunning upset over the Hillbillies, in what is instantly a classic GLB game. However, after playing so long and so hard, will they have anything left for the next road game against Vancouver? I like this team, but I don't see it pulling off two in a row.
Loss at Vancouver: 21-24
