I'm curious. Does anyone here in A8 play a base 3-4 defense? Right now it seems... lacking somehow, and I was wondering if anyone has had any good experiences with it.

The Marauders play a base 4-3, but I am a co-ordinator on a team that runs a base 3-4, and I haven't seen many other teams trying it.

Good luck getting answers before the playoffs

Yeah, we have a 3/4 that we're firing up. All teams need to stop running plays against us and punt the ball as soon as they get possesion. Anything beyond that will lead to public embarrassment.

Naa, I'm willing to wait until after the playoffs for anyone that wants to answer. It's not like anyone scouting a team wouldn't see them in a 3-4 versus a 4-3 or anything. We've encountered one team that likes to switch to it when the offense goes into a 3 wide set, but I can't remember really seeing anyone else on our side of the league running it.

Almost forgot to get back to this Pin. We ran a full out 3-4 this entire season. Didnt manage to get quite the QB pressure i had hoped to with the blitzing(i was probably a little too conservative in retrospect), but other than that i think our D was pretty solid throughout the year. Sure it could have been better, but it performed as well if not better than we did last year. Not sure how much of that can be attributed to the 3-4 though, as some of it was due to upgrades this season.

Either way, have a look at our stats if you havent already.

we mixed the 34 in with the 43. we used the 34 for very specific plays and it worked very well, but as a whole, we found the 34 to be very soft in the middle and easily exploited with a solid run game and passing to the TE...

We used the 3-4 very little this season and just on specific formations. Guess it might've been a 5-10plays a game. We just didn't have the Depth at LB to really try using it full time

We weren't here this past season, but N.H. mixes in some 3-4 looks on a situational basis. You'll see it next season.

I am the DC of a team in Africa that exclusively runs the 3-4, and it took us most of the season to get the people trained for the 3-4 instead of the 4-3. The last few games it started to show pretty decently.

I agree with onepeat, most 3-4s are open right up the middle to a hard run attack. We didn't see the TEs hurting us much, and actually ended the season 5th I think in passing defense, which isn't bad.

Myself, I enjoy watching NFL teams that run good 3-4s. I like the Pat's defense, and as much as I hate to admit it, the Steeler's defense has been one of the best in the league since about forever. I'm not sure it translates as well to GLB as the blitzing can really ball you up, and it is an essential part of the 3-4.

Ive been experimenting with it in the scrimmage games and I'm not impressed, I think the 4-3 gives a better pass rush if you have the DEs and is better for stopping the run.
