The first time these 2 teams met this season it was a battle all the way through. It was a close matchup where no one would even dare to leave their seats. Neither team could score in the first due to great defense but Montville found a way to get down the field and score 2 FGs in the 2nd quarter.
Coming out of the gate in the 2nd half once again neither team could gain an inch on the other team with no points scored in the 3rd. The Monks were feeling nervous with Montville up 3-0. Great defense so far by the Mustangs and some people might have thought they were going to win the game because the Monks couldn't do anything on them. But they were wrong......
In the 4th quarter the Drunken Monks came out fired up and scored 10 points to start the quarter that gave them a 10-6 lead over the Montville Mustangs. The Mustangs drove down the field and Freedom Williams threw a pass up the left side to Sunshine Scooter for a TD leaving 48 seconds on the clock. Montville was up 13-10 and everyone thought this game was over with not much time left on the clock. Once again they were wrong.....
The Monks got the ball at their own 42 and Brett Bartkowski went to work with 2 deep balls setting them up for a 40 yard field goal. Kick Kickingston sent it right through the uprights tieing the game at 13-13.
The Monks got the ball in overtime and had a great 35 yard return. They drove down the field with a good mix of passing and rushing and it seemed like the Mustangs were too tired out and the Monks took advantage of this. Sweetness Walters grabbed the pitch and ran right into the endzone ending the game with the Monks on top of the Mustangs 20-13. This game was home at Stangs Stadium and the Mustangs fans were shocked. They couldn't believe what had just happened before their eyes.
These 2 teams face again in the 1st round of the playoffs, and Montville's out for revenge.....
