Quite a week last go around. Belfast had a huge win over Warsaw, and Grim was upset by the D-Monks, to leave Belfast as the last remaining undefeated team. Sorry these are a little late, but like I always say… who cares. After looking at this week’s games I decided we are going to have to have two Game of the Weeks.
Game of the Week #1:
Grim Reapers (8-1) @ Belfast Mafia (9-0)
Belfast is coming off a huge win over Warsaw last week, where their defense came up with just enough big plays to get them the win. Grim on the other had is coming off a tough loss to Dublin where their offense just couldn’t get the ball rolling. They are looking to end Belfast’s win streak by starting a new one of their own. It’s going to come down to whose offense can make enough plays early to give their defense a cushion to work with.
I think this one is going to end up going to Belfast, and they keep the streak alive, 27-21.
Game of the Week #2
Clydesdale Colts (0-9) @ Crimson and Cream Sooner Machine (0-9)
The battle of the bottom of the barrel teams in the league could actually turn out to be a good match. I think these teams are pretty evenly matched, and it’s going to come down to who can shore up enough of their weaknesses to gain an edge.
In a “Someone has got to win it” special, I’m thinking the Colts come out ahead, 28-17.
Warsaw Knuckleheads (8-1) @ Amsterdam Arctic Blast (7-2)
In another game that could easily be a GOTW, and continues with a week of really good matchups, these two teams come to battle. Warsaw is coming off a very tough loss to Belfast, even though their offense did a great job of moving the football. Amsterdam is coming off a dominating performance against Clydesdale and they will need everything they got to win this one. Warsaw’s ground attack continues to be the best in the league, and it’s going to take everything Amsterdam has got to slow them down.
That running game led by Kal-El Jones turns out to be just too much for the Blast, and Warsaw runs away with a 31-21 win.
Transylvania Bloodsuckers (8-1) @ Dublin Drunken Monkeys (5-4)
Transylvania is on upset alert this week as the D-Monks just knocked off previously undefeated Grim last week, and are looking to keep the momentum going this week, as they end their stretch of 5 very tough games. Jason Coker continues to dazzle through the air for the Suckers, While RB Brad Theisen got things going again for the D-Monks after a couple of slow weeks. This one could come down to who can stay balanced enough on offense.
In the end though, Coker and Co. will just be too much, and win in a 38-35 shootout.
St. Louis Storm (5-4) @ Basin City Blues (4-5)
In another really good matchup, the Storm and the Blues meet in what could have been another GOTW. The storm is coming off two straight wins off basement dwellers, while the Blues are coming off a very tough loss to a improving London squad. I think this one could come down to depth, as both teams do have a slight weakness there.
When it comes down to it, the Blues bench steps up, and win 30-27.
Kilkenny Cannibals (5-4) @ Ithaca Space Munkees (1-8)
The Cannibals continue in their hunt for a playoff spot, while the Space Munks are trying to right the ship, still in the funk of an 8 game losing streak. Wrexham gave Kilkenny a little scare last week, and I think the Munkees could give them problems is their scouting department did its job.
In the end though, the Cannibals are just too much for the Spacers, and win 31-14.
London Brawling Tommies (5-4) @ Wrexham Maelor Brionnfhionn (0-9)
Wrexham continues to come up just short, and they are looking for a way to just salvage some part of the season, and upsetting a steadily improving London team could be a good start. The Tommies are getting hot, as they have ripped off three straight and are looking like a playoff team a little more each day. They still have been inconsistent at times during the season, and which team shows up is going to decide this one.
However no matter which London team shows up, I believe they’ll extend the streak to 4, with a 20-10 victory.
Oklahoma Outlaws (5-4) @ Vatra Dornei Wraiths (2-7)
Oklahoma is still right in the thick of the playoff race, while the Wraiths are really slipping as of late. Oklahoma has won 4 of their last 5, and look to stay hot, especially with a really tough schedule coming up in a couple weeks. Vatra Dornei is trying to get things going again, after their tough part of their schedule really dropped them in the rankings. Oklahoma better be on upset alert because the Wraiths will make this one tough.
In a game that’s close down to the wire, Oklahoma squeaks out a 27-24 win.
