Thanks to all the owners, GM's and players involved in this endeavor. This is the inaugural Classic and probably going to be the most lopsided. All matchups are set and we're ready to go. Here's my predictions as to how they'll turn out for Round 1.

Sacred Haven Knights vs Wollongong Shaved Pussycats
This has already simmed and Sacred Haven poured it on against fellow AA4 member Pussycats to the tune of 56-0. Thanks Po for participating, even though you were outleveled. The Knights running game rang up a total of 336.5 yds against the Cats and the armored Knights D harrassed them for 2 turnovers. The Knights round 2 opponent is the winner of the Gunner/Pirates game.

Newcastle Minotaur vs Easter Island Moai- aug 16-6:00
Newcastle is stacked and could be the sleeper of this tournament. The offense is deadly behind center with Khano Isghey and the two headed monster of Hart/Zepp. The D is anchored by the sack masters Henderson and Moreno. The Moai are led by HB Omar Taylor but the rest of the squad need to play lights out to withstand the constant onslaught from both horns (off and def) of the Minotaur.
Minotaur win by 40+

Alice Springs Rock Wallabies vs Brisbane Troyfins aug 16- 9:00
These two teams know each other well from AA4 Zeta and played each other in the second game of the regular season with ASRW coming out on top 27-10. Brisbane will fight a little harder this time around but it should be about the same result
Wallabies by 13

Fiji Flying Foxes vs Uluru Rockies aug 17- 9:00
Fiji is a solid team in AA4 and should put on a clinic against the Rockies. Pat Dev lin (qb) and the combination of Speedy Wonder/Brock Forsey (HB's) should score a lot of points for the Foxes. J. Lake (DE) and Tony Carter #4 (cb) should make life difficult for the Rockies QB. Slappy Biggs (DT) of the Rockies may disrupt the flow of the Foxes O, but if his team mates don't play the games of their lives, it'll be for nothing.
Foxes by 24

Melbourne Assasins vs Manilla Gorillaz aug 17- 12:00
Melbourne is the presumptive favorites for this tournament being an older and more experienced team than any of the other teams. Led by Qb EJ Ponder and HB Adam Fletcher on O and Noles Dynasty on D, this game should be over even before it starts.
Assasins kill Gorillaz by 70+

Tonga Thunderbirds vs Hawthorne Headhunters aug 17- 13:00
Tonga is solid if not spectacular, led by Moore Power (HB). The same could be said for Hawthorne, led by Gwynn Downtown (QB). I'll pick the upset in this one as Gwynn overpowers the Thunderbird D.
Headhunters add one to their trophy case, win by 10

Eastern Savages vs Anarctica Seals Aug 18- 16:00
Eastern Savages are pass happy, led by QB, Jake Storm. The Seals have a good core of players but can't withstand the aerial assault that's about to be unleashed on them.
Savages club some Seals, win by 24

Guadalcanal Gunners vs Perth Pirates Aug 18- 18:00
Gunners know the Pirates well from AA4. This is going to be a beat down of epic proportions.
Gunners by 50+

Thank you all for participating, cycle 2 and beyond i think will be more competitive as leveling slows down and some teams catch up to others. If you know your opponent for round 2 you can challenge them at any time.

Very nice imput here, JB.
You've really done a nice job with this Oceania Classic

However, we're going to do everything in our power to prevent this upset. Best of luck to Hawthorn, we're going to bring everything we have to advance to the 2nd round.

I expect nothing less from the Thunderbirds, and I might have a trick up my sleeve or two.

Haha, we shall see. Definitely going to fine tune our AI solely for this baby. Just a bit under 20 hours 'til the showdown!

We wish you the best!

I am doing writeups for the games that have played already; I will put the second group in this post as well.

#8 Alice Springs Rock Wallabies (4 Zeta) vs #9 Brisbane Troyfins (4 Zeta)-
Neither team played good defense, but Alice Springs were VERY efficient on offense, with their QB AO having an 80% completion rate, going 31-39 for 322.5 and 3 TDs. ASRW 37-27

#4 Sacred Haven Knights (4 Alpha) vs #13 Wollongong Shaved Pussycats (4 Zeta)-
The Knights just DESTROYED the Shaved Pussycats, averaging over 9 yards a carry. The defense got 7 sacks in a 56-0 romping!

#7 Newcastle Minotaur (3 Zeta) vs #10-Easter Island Moai (2 Alpha)-
Newcastle showed good balance on offense with 505 yards, doubling Easter Island's offensive output; they were decent at stopping the run also in a 38-7 victory

#3 Fiji Flying Foxes (4 Zeta) vs #14 Uluru Rockies (2 Zeta)-
Fiji showed a propensity for running the ball, and did it rather well. The offensive line was dominant, allowing those lanes to be open. 38-16 Fiji.

#1 Melbourne Assasins (1 Alpha) vs #16 Manilla Gorillaz (2 Alpha)-
Melborune, being in the super competitive AA#1, has excellent talent, and showed it. Their running attack was the most dominant of any team in round one. The Gorillaz were assassinated 66-7.

#6 Tonga Thunderbirds (2 Zeta) vs #11 Hawthorn Headhunters (4 Alpha)- Tonga easily had a better team- they produced much more offense and stopped the run, but Hawthorn created 4 turnovers, and scored 21 in the 4th Quarter in an unsuccessful comeback. 27-21 Thunderbirds.

#5 Guadalcanal Gunners (4 Zeta) vs #12 Perth Pirates (4 Zeta)-

#2 Eastern Savages (1 Alpha) vs #15 Antarctica Seals (3 Zeta)-

Man we shut down Hawthorne until that 4th quarter. I dont know where they pulled that final run out of but 3 td's in 10 minutes in the 4th was scary. Great game guys.

Fantastic game, Hawthorn. You guys roared back from 27 down early in the fourth to make this a heart-stopper for us. Let's just say we're going to be looking at our 4th quarter AI a bit more, now. Your team is FAR better than that record indicates, and we wish you all the best of luck in the regular season.
