Saskatoon hangs ‘em high

Saskatoon (CP)… It was a shootout reminiscent of the OK corral, but the Sasquatch brought more bullets and blew away the Northside Hangmen 52-26.

“Och, them lads have soom receivers ya see,” said cornerback Rabbie McBurns, who picked off two of the Hangmen’s 71 pass attempts, “We dinna cover as well as we cood ‘ave, but it was enough this time aroun’, aye?”

McBurns and the other cornerbacks were worked heavily as the Hangmen abandoned any significant effort on the ground and just kept throwing to their top receivers, Juan Patino and Anthony Lynch. But if the Hangmen’s offense was impressive, the Sasquatch were downright dominating.

Focusing on the ground rather than the air, Hawk Wayland paced all runners 225 yards on just 11 carries. Atma Weapon added another 106 yards through massive holes opened by a dominant Saskatoon line.

“They kept trying for these highlight reel shots and that simply is not gonna happen once I’ve got a head of steam,” said Wayland.

Indeed, in the first quarter, Wayland broke a total of 5 tackles on a 56 yard romp towards the endzone.

The Sasquatch face perhaps their biggest test of the year thus far as they face the undefeated Calgary Destroyers in their next game.

“They’ve got a great team and they’re league champs, but we don’t lay down for anyone. They better bring all they got because we’re coming for a war,” said offensive lineman Vinny Samsung.
