I was bored, everything written in here is either my opinion or a statistical fact, if you disagree thats great, but understand these are only my opinions. Enjoy the read.

Week 1 alot of us were just happy to get this show on the road. A few teams returned to A6 at the beginning of season 4 with high hopes after establishing themselves as A6 Wests up and comming powerhouses.

Theres 5 brand new teams who joined the West this season, some after finding great success in season 3's playoffs and others who were gutted or just to weak to make due in leagues above us. One team got a name change, and another, the Richey Royals, moved up into AA3 after going undefeated in the regular season against the rest of us in A6, but fell to Washington Wolfpack, a 1 man band team, in the league championship.

After 7 games

only 2 teams stand undefeated:
Chicago Hedgehogs & SanDiego Demolition

three teams hold just 1 loss:
Mentone Beach Assault, Huskers Illustrated Bugeaters & Barbarian Horde

1 team with 2 losses:
Tana River Ewoks

and 4 teams round out 7-10 each with 3 losses a piece:
Oklahoma City Strikers, Alberquerque Isotopes, Death Valley gravediggers & Cleveland Elves

3 of the new teams who werent strong enough for their league appear still not strong enough to deal with ours as they round out the bottom 3 teams in the West:
Big Bear Avalanche, Hellas Longhornns & Brooklyn Beastmen

Only 2 of the new teams are finding success in A6 West and its no suprise that these are both teams who were promoted for their success:
The Tana River Ewoks & Alberquerque Isotops

The teams that round out the mid-bottom of the standings as of now are 3 teams who have been in A6 for atleast 1 season and seem to be having trouble dealing losses to the majority of the conference.
Austin Beavers, Denver Shockers, & The Lake Placid Predators formerly known as Spokane Dream.

Out of those 3 teams Lake Placid(Spokane) has had by far the roughest start after playing 5 of what I believe to be the top 8 teams in A6. They definately have what it takes to win as many as 6 or even 7 of their remaining games if they can find some depth and straighten things out.

The Beavers and Shockers both have the same kind of story, 2 teams who have some very talented players and can win games against bad teams but have trouble beating solid competition. The Shockers starting 23DE Brian Young is 2nd in the conference with 7 sacks, behing only Man Power a 27DT of Austin Beavers.
Both teams have good players and if they can figure out what they need to do to get things moving in the right direction they could begin to cause alot of problems for the better teams here.

As we move up in rank to the 4 teams above them, all 4 teams have something in common other than just a 3-3 record. Oklahoma City, Death Valley, Alberqueque and Cleveland are all teams who have been very successful in the past and lately are struggling to find their niche and stay competitive with the best the conference can offer. Oklahoma and Death Valley were 2 of the strongest teams in A6 in season 2 and have seen their advantages erode the past 2 seasons. Albequeque and Cleveland both were promoted for finding success in other leagues, Cleveland after season 2 and Albequeque just this last offseason.

Out of the 4 Oklahoma City has had the toughest start of schedule playing 3 of the Wests top 5 teams in weeks 1, 2, and 3. They are completely capable of going on a run and finding themselves among the top 6 or 7 teams in the Conference. They are tough to beat at any time and I am sure noone will look forward to playing them in the first round of the playoffs.

Albequerque is an up and comming team who looks to be a dark horse of the West in season 4 after taking down Mentone, a team that was thought to be top 4 material in the West today. This is a huge upset and I know nobody saw this comming, the only problem for Albequerque is they wont be able to sneak up on anyone again. I look for them to make a strong push for a playoff spot and they have a great chance of causing an upset in round 1.

The only team in the West with a 4-2 record is the Tana River Ewoks. They took their place among the western conference teams after making it to their league championship game. Alot of the teams who were promoted to A6 seem to have trouble finding success but not the Ewoks, they look strong early, beating some of the weaker teams convincingly, as they should. Their only 2 losses came against 2 of the Wests strongest teams though they played very well in both of those games.

Some would say Tana River is the dark horse but I dont agree, I wouldn't be suprised at any amount of success they may find. There is a select few teams who are the cream of the crop, but the Ewoks are on the heels of all of those teams. One mistake could mean a loss for any of the strongest teams in A6. Tana River probably wont move up this season unless they catch on fire for the playoffs but I definately believe they have upset potential. Their not at the top, but their better than everyone else and will be one of the stronger teams in A6 West for seasons to come.

We move up in rank to the only 3 teams in A6 West who boast a 5-1 record, Mentone Beach Assault, Huskers Illustrated Bugeaters and Barbarian Horde. All 3 of these teams are as deadly as anyone in the league and can beat any team on any given day.
Mentone is a team that came on strong season 3, they did what it took to put a great team on the field and arose from the middle of the pack to the top of the food chain. They established themselves as an up and comming threat in season 3 and now that season 4 is here they look to be even stronger though Albequeque threw a wrench in their plans today with a stunning upset in a 27-26 game.

Up until this point Mentone was considered one of the top 3 teams in A6, but now we will have to see how the season progresses before we know if their loss was a fluke, or an indication of an inability to be consistently dominant.

The Bugeaters were the new guys last season after going undefeated in season 2. They showed up talking a big game and walked the walk although fell short of making a run thru 2 straight leagues with a 2nd round loss in the playoffs. They sit at 5-1 now with only 1 loss, but it is to Mentone which makes things interesting. Albequeque beat Mentone today and that twists alot of things up considering Mentone beat the Horde as well. Either the Isotopes are ready to wreck shop all over A6 West or Mentone dropped the ball.

The Barbarian Horde, like the Bugs lost to Mentone so their loss today effects their image as well, an image that has been nearly flawless to this point. Season 2 the Horde were the most dominant team going into the playoffs undefeated where they were upset and since that point, seem to have been having problems finding that same consistency again. Last season they went into the playoffs as the 6 seed and were eliminated in round 1 by the Bugs but I believe they will exact revenge this season. They will always be one of the most deadly teams in the entire league and will give every team they play a tough tough fight.

Last but not least, are the two remaining undefeated teams in A6 West. It would surely be premature to crown either of these teams yet but their early success is indicative of strengths on both sides of the ball which are going to be difficult for any team to match.

The Chicago hedgehogs made their rise fomr mediocrity last season as they established themselves as a top-notch team in the West, beating some of the strongest competitors the conference had to offer and playing very well against even the teams it could not beat. This season they have cleared the last hurdle and look to go undefeated thru the entire regular season. They boast the leagues best passing offense thru 7 games and have a stout defense that is the conferences 2nd ranked rush D and the 3rd best pass D to boot.

Although somewhat untested, their power is evident in the comparative analysis of the woopings they have put on some of the teams they have faced. Their strongest opponent to date was the Tana River Ewoks who currently sit in 7th place. Their first real test, and season 3s biggest game yet, comes against the Demolition in week 8, who are also undefeated.

The SanDiego Demolition are a team that has gotten steadily better after doing a complete renovation of their season 2 roster. They came into season 3 strong and ran the gammut faultering only thrice, one loss to a then undefeated Richey Royals, and another loss in a shocking upset by the then, Spokane Dream(Lake Placid) who Demo finally got their revenge upon last week after a 34-0 demolishing. Their 3rd loss came in week 15 against the Horde but were able to keep their #2 rank because of a .5 game lead on the 3rd place Bugeaters.

The Demolition Crew boasts one of the strongest running games the league has to offer and also a league leading rush and pass defense. They are a team also somewhat untested, their toughest opponent also the Tana River Ewoks. Their next game comes against the Barbarian Horde who will surely give them the toughest fight of the season to date, and then their next game comes against Chicago.

In the next 2 weeks there should be a clear leader of A6 West who could possibly run the gauntlet and finish the regular season undefeated.
It could also turn out to where the #1 seed has as many as 2 losses. A6 West is very competitive within the top 5 spots and the playoffs are going to be greatly anticipated as maybe the most exciting bracket yet.

Nice write-up. I will point out one small thing. The Bugeaters did lose one game in season 2. Hopefully the Ewoks can turn some of that upset potential into reality.

Mattman+bored=good stuff.

Thx for the write up buddy. Interesting stuff and a good read, though I try to keep on top of most of the stuff in the west at any rate.

Its worth noting that the Chicago Hedgehogs thus far have a spotty record against the top A6 teams.

0-2 vs. the Demolition
1-1 vs. the Horde
0-1 vs. the Bugeaters
1-2 vs. the Assult (though the win was in the playoffs, zing lol)

I'm very pumped up to possibly improve that record. We are a better team than last year, and I beleive have a much better system, but part of me is still gonna be a bit uneasy until we get out first game against one of the above teams out of the way.

16-0 would be nice, but I wouldn't cry about 15-1 or even 14-2. Very tough at the top of the west, and theres a solid chance that 14-2 could be the #1 seed. Expecially since the Isotopes already showed off their upset ability, and I am confident the ewoks are gonna upset someone at some point after the way they played vs. Chicago and San Diego.

Interesting statistics. We've had three thorns in our side ever since we joined this league in Season 2. Richey, San Fransisco, and BH. Thankfully two of them have moved on. We really want to end the win streak the Horde has on us this season. There are definitely many teams we could lose to this season, but those are the three teams that have kept us from getting past the conference championship.

Drew (Mattman) and I have mentioned before how much Chicago has improved, but we really shouldn't be all that surprised. You guys played Richey close twice last season. We weren't able to figure them out on either side of the ball. So I'd say last season was really your breakout year.

I agree with you that a 14-2 record could end up being the #1 seed in the West. The teams at the top are so evenly matched that there's no way to predict what might happen. The playoffs will be ridiculous.

Great Writeup!

A sidenote on us. We lost early in the season and than boosted and went on a 20+ game winning streak. We got mad about that early loss(kind of like Tana River this year) and went wild and won a ton straight.

Yeah, slightly different strategy this season given reduced benefit from waiting to boost and a desire to get a higher seed in the playoffs. We don't want to face one of the top 4 guys if we can avoid it, since winning 3 tough games and advancing is harder than winning 2.

I don't know if we'll be able to slow your offense down or not. It's been pretty ridiculous so far. In previous seasons we have been able to rely on a pretty dominant defense, but of course, that has been thrown for a loop somewhat. It's not just a speed nerf problem, though. I'm not sure you can play shutdown defense anymore; it may be better to be a 'big play' defense alongside a good offense, so I'm worried that until our team can adapt to the new simulator, we will not be quite as strong as we once were since our team concept was kind of broken with the new advantages the offense has.

Of course, boosting will surely help. But I think we need to see an improvement on offense, always a weaknesss for us, before we can be dominant again.

Yeah there's no doubt the overall complexion of the league has changed this season due to Bort's Season 4 updates. I like the options we have now with the AI system, but I also miss the defensive "smashmouth" type gameplay we're accustomed to from the previous seasons. It seems like just about every position on Offense got a boost in effectiveness.

Either way, our games against you guys are always close so I expect this one to be no different. Good luck today.
