Alright, I had some problems with the new login procedure this weekend, so I didn't get that figured out until late last night, and figured I might as well wait until today's games were over to post them.

But, here they are.

Well, I've revamped the rankings, and calculated a final ranking for last season (mostly, some of the team name changes have made calculating the recent game aspect a pain in the ass, so I'm not dealing with those until the season actually starts), but this gives us the meat of the rankings.

The rankings this year are greatly simplified, and mainly based on two stats.
1) Per Game Success Factor
2) Quality Opponents

The Per Game Success Factor is loosly based on the DVOA stat published by The Football Outsiders: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/
where a team gets points per play bases on how well they move the football. Up to 1 point per play, with bonuses for TD's, FG's, long plays, and moving the ball inside the red zone. This value is calculated for both team in a game, and the value used is the difference between the two teams. As an example, the week 1 game between the Lincoln Navigators and the LA Arsenal.
Lincoln accumulated a Success Factor score of 51.44
The Arsenal racked up a Success Factor score of 19.58

Lincoln then came out of the game with a Success factor of 31.86, while the Arsenal ended with a Factor of -31.86.

The Success Factor presented here tonight is a season long cumulative value (regular season only). FWIW King Donalt had a score of -1222.36, while, the highest was WindyCity with 601.09.

The second factor is a Quality Opponent Factor. This is simpler to explain. If you beat a team, you get 1 point for every win they have, if you lose to a team, you get -1 point for every loss they have.

Each of these factors is scaled from 0-100 and added to get the final score, which is then ranked.

As the season progresses, the scores will change a bit, as I am planning on adding a few more points based on the most recent 4 games (to reflect teams that are hot or not), but it will be pretty similar to this.

No ST rankings, no defensive rankings, no Offensive rankings (although I'm sure some of you will call these rankings offensive...Zing!!). Everything is wrapped up in one nice little package with the Success Factor.

Thanks,
StickMan

There's no way Hollywood should be ranked that high. We should be down around 20th or something.

6 - Dread City Diabolicals (W) (4-0-0) 161.2

Is there a reason that Dread City only has 4 games? Just wondering.

Thanks for getting these up again. They look great!

I have a question about "quality opponents". Is it based only on the record of the opposing team at the time you played them or does it adjust as the season goes on? For example we beat Florida when they were 3-0. Say they end the season at 13-3. At the end of the season would their final 13-3 record be reflected in our "quality opponents" or would it be the 3-0 record they had when we played them?

Thanks, I'll hang up and listen to your response.

Oh, good catch. It was a screwup in the formula that gets the loss data, So that's really the only thing that got messed up. It might have hurt the quality win numbers for the people beaten by Dread city, as they didn't get a (-1), so I'll check that.

Otherwise, the success points were calculated for all of Dread city's games.

Thanks,

Right now, it would be the 13-3 at the end of the season, if they end up 13-3.

I thought about doing it the other way, but that was too much of a pain in the ass. And I think this way, you get credit for beating a good team early on, even if no one knows they are a good team yet, and you won't get inflated credit for beating a team who's only played cup-cakes up to that point in the season.

Thanks,
StickMan

Right now Hollywood has the most Quality Win points, which scores you a lot of points for the total score. And you have the 7th best success point score. So you belong up there. You're playing good football right now.

It's going to be hard to knock some of the W teams off the top of the list...we've just got too many easy games, our success points score is going to be extremely inflated. Yeah, quality wins might knock that down a bit...but, if there's just enough of us good teams in the league, we may not suffer there.

I'll go out on a limb and say Lincoln remains number one for the rest of the season.

Will be interesting to follow, though. Thanks Stickman.

Oh, BTW....Let me be the first to say that, looking at the opponents they've done it against, I disagree that my DC boys should be ranked higher than Hollywood. In my book, they're at least one spot, if not two, ahead of us, right now.

Srs bsns post: I think you should separate it to East and West. the top like 12 teams in the West will all rank above those in the East due to cupcakes excluding French Lick because they're awesome, even with an attempt to stop gutted teams from mattering.

It's going to be very hard for any team in the East to stay in the top 5 with how gutted some of the west is, and how tough most of the east is.

I'll honestly say the middle of the pack in the East is going to be top 3-5 quality in the West.
