Hedgehog's Power Rankings - Week Five

Changed the format of the rankings a little so:

The Movers and Shakers
Top Risers: Flint Tropics (+6) and Hillsburgh Hillbillies (+4)
Biggest Drop: Cheyenne Mountain Air Force (-7)

Power Rankings

The Top Ten

1. (2/+1) - Saskatchewan Sasquatches - (5-0)
-Despite an ugly game against the Calgary Thunder with 6 fumbles and 2 INTs, the reigning Champs take the top spot this week. They’ve been doing what great teams should be doing – winning convincingly against mid-ranked teams. The Sasquatches will be looking to continue that trend as they cross town and face the Calgary Wrestlers.

2. (5/+3) - Queen City Black Cats - (5-0)
-The dynamic duo of Ben Jeudah and Tyler Nixon now leads the league with a combined 2375 in rushing yards and 44 touchdowns as the Black Cats bowl over the Cheyenne Mountain Air Force 44-10. Can the Montreal Canadiens stop the run next week as the Black Cats look to remain undefeated?

3. (3/-) - Halifax Hashishim - (5-0)
-The Hashishim make quick work of the Bulldawgs dispatching them 97-14. The Hashishim will be looking at the Cheyenne Mountain Air Force as their next worthy victims Week 8 with a 7-0 record and having defeated the likes of the Red Deer Blue Elk and the Nebraska Husker Maniacs.

4. (4/-) - Vinland Vikings - (5-0)
-The Vikings have only faced one team with a winning record so far, and that’s lead them to ranking below the Sasquatches this week. They’ll be facing their biggest test in the next two weeks as they face 4-and-1 Manitoba Icemen and undefeated Saskatchewan Sasquatches afterwards. Will the Vikings be lords of the Western Conference come Week 8?

5. (6/+1)- Cold Lake Wolverine - (5-0)
-The Cold Lake Wolverines rise up a notch with a good win against a team with a winning record: the Saskatoon Guerillaz. You can say the same thing about the Wolverines as much as the marauders above them: they’ll have their mettle tested come Week 7 facing the same teams as the Vikings…in the same order.

6. (7/+1) - Sudbury Spartans - (4-1)
-The Sudbury Spartans are rising up the rankings quietly racking up the wins. Like I said Week Four this is a very balanced team and it shows on their offensive stats, with equal time for the rush and the pass. Next week should be a “W” as they’re up against the Quebec Boreal.

7. (8/+1) - Nebraska Husker Maniacs - (4-1)
-Despite the small 4th Quarter scare with the Red Deer Blue Elk, the Maniacs have soundly thrashed everyone they face except for the Hashishim. The Husker Maniacs have a mid-season vacation coming up with the bottom three of the Eastern Conference pampering them with wins.

8. (1/-7) - Cheyenne Mountain Air Force - (4-1)
-The Cheyenne Mountain Air Force drops seven places this week after getting shot down by the Queen City Black Cats, with the ground attack getting no help from the air support. The Cheyenne Mountain Air Force can cool their heels in the next couple weeks before facing the Hashishim.

9. (13/+4) - Hillsburgh Hillbillies - (4-1)
-Surprise, their win against the Kelowna Outlaws means they’ve gone undefeated in the past four games. In the midst of the easiest string of games for the first half of the season, for the entire league, the question is if the Hillbillies are up to snuff against the likes of the Sasquatches, the Icemen, the Warriors and just about every team with a “tougher” sounding name.

10. (10/-) - Manitoba Icemen - (4-1)
-The Icemen stand firm in the tenth spot by defeating the rest of the mid-tiered squads in the Western Conference, and doing it convincingly against the Wrestlers this week. They’re going to need to do the same for the next four weeks: their toughest stretch of the season starts with the Vikings.

The Best of the Rest

11. (12/+1) - Montreal Canadiens - (4-1)
-Nick Wang & Co. have a big test of their winning ways with a trip to the Queen City Black Cats next week.
12. (9/-3) - Vancouver Vindicators - (4-1)
-They dropped due to a narrow win over the 0-5 In San Jose Pimpin Ait Easy; while teams above them have scored more than 15+ in their victories.
13. (19/+6) - Flint Tropics - (3-2)
-This is the highest they’ll get to this season, from the looks of it.
14. (15/+1) - Calgary Wrestlers - (3-2)
-The Icemen proved they were indeed punching above their weight and now the Sasquatches are next.
15. (11/-4) - Saskatoon Guerillaz - (3-2)
-Good, but not good enough as they lose to the Wolverines.
16. (14/-2) - Destruction Bay Dragons - (3-2)
T-hey’ll keep dropping if they can’t beat another team that has at least one win.

The Hopefuls
17. (17/-) - Red Deer Blue Elk - (2-3)
-Wise man says: Do what you did in that last 4th quarter more!
18. (18/-) - Revelstoke Revolution - (2-3)
-I wonder why they didn't go for the FG as the 4th quarter closed on them.
19. (22/+3) - Winipeg Warriors - (2-3)
-This is definitely a team on the upswing.
20. (16/-4) - Calgary Thunder - (2-3)
-So far, a very average team.
21. (23/+2) - Portsmouth Cavaliers - (2-3)
-Sure win next week; then it’s crunch time for them.
22. (20/-2) - Quebec Boreal - (2-3)
-The Dallas Crimeboys they are not.

Better Luck Next Season
23. (25/+2) - Iqaluit Arctic Wolves - (1-4)
-Just not good enough; but congrats on the win…
24. (26/+2) - Saskatchewan Beavers - (1-4)
-They’ll be picking up wins primarily due to player level difference this season.
25. (21/-4) - St. John’s Salty Dogs - (1-4)
-I would have never thought on Day One the Salty Dogs would be here.
26. (24/-2) - In San Jose Pimpin Aint Easy - (0-5)
-If only the rest of the team was as prodigious as their passing attack they’d be a lot higher.
27. (28/+1) - Toronto Smoke - (0-5)
-Well at least they’ll win against the Crusaders.
28. (27/-1) - Kelowna Outlaws - (0-5)
-At least you’re not in the bottom four.

The D-League – Maybe the CPU has a better chance of winning with these teams?
29. (29/-) - Barkmere Bulldawgs - (0-5)
30. (30/-) - Castlegar Crusaders - (0-5)
31. (31/-) - Bloodweiser Bugle All Stars - (0-5)
32. (32/-) - Peterborough Preachers - (0-5)

You seem to be quite the yawner...I always yawn when I am about to hit the sack, not looking at power rankings. If they bore you, go do your own bro. Try to provide some suggestions, improvement, or comments for next time Hedge does these rankings. Even if you have to say something along the lines of, "My team ____ is the best team out... and your power rankings are awful," than say it. thanks

The Cats are no.2 in the coaches poll as well so I don't see a problem with it. I'm a little surprised that we are no.1 with the way the vikings have been knocking off opponents.

No personally i don't care where the Vikings are ranked,I'll let our play speak for itself. I just think it's biased that QC moved up that much when the guy doing the poll has a player on that team, don't get me wrong good for them and everything just pointing that out.

He does the poll, but in all fairness he has nothing to do with it. All he does is put in a bunch of numbers then the poll shoots back out the rankings. He doesn't decide who is where at all.

Give me a break...There are other polls, by other posters that have The Black Cats as #1. Yawn on those.

I don't think it was out of bias...Queen City beat a good team in Cheyenne last week, and did it by trouncing them. I don't remember exactly where they were ranked, but it was somewhere between 5-10. It seems justified they'd get a big bounce up in the rankings.

Conversely, the aggregate W/L record of the teams the Vikings have beaten is 4-21. Granted you crushed all of them, and admittedly you don't pick your schedule, but that's why the Vikes are falling...they haven't played anyone yet. For QC, 6-19 isn't that much better, but last week they beat a previously undefeated team.

It's probably the reason you're behind Halifax as well since the combined W/L of their opponents is 9-16...SOS has to account in the ratings.

Of the teams at the top, Saskatchewan is 10-15...so having played the hardest schedule of the unbeatens, it makes sense they're #1
