I currently operate both of the guards on my team. We're not a very good team, having only won a few games last season and off to a 1 - 2 start this season. We're working on building a mid-range passing game and a power rushing game.

RG
Strength: 60.88
Blocking: 61.2
Speed: 28.68
Agility: 35.55
Stamina: 40.32
Vision: 36.15
Confidence: 36.88

Pass Blocking Abilities: 3 -> 2 -> 2-> 2 -> 0
Run Blocking Abilities: 4 -> 3 -> 3-> 3-> 4

Custom equipment is contributing to the Run Blocking tree (included in the numbers above). The rest of my equipment is contributing +9 strength and +9 blocking (also included in the above). Unfortunately, my team can't afford level 24 equipment, so as I save money, I'll be able to put some more into blocking and strength.

I know that I wasted skill points in speed, since I didn't realize initially that a pulling guard wasn't effective with the available simulation engine. I honestly don't know what kind of effect confidence, vision, and agility have on blocking. I think that from now on, I've gotta get my blocking and strength to the second soft cap (natural 60). Is there anything else I should be putting points in?

LG
Strength: 61.37
Blocking: 61.37
Speed: 22.29
Agility: 36
Stamina: 36.13
Vision: 36.97
Confidence: 30.37

Pass Blocking Abilities: 2 -> 0 -> 0-> 0 -> 0
Run Blocking Abilities: 3 -> 2 -> 2-> 3-> 4

Custom equipment is contributing to the Run Blocking tree (included in the numbers above). The rest of my equipment is contributing +9 strength and +9 blocking (also included in the above).

Do agility or vision need more points, or should I just dump everything into strength and blocking from now on?

+STR on both, get it to at least 60 raw, maybe 68.

every point in str/blk. consider training it, too, as you're getting double value out of it, .11 is deceivingly a lot to get from training and that's probably what you'd get out of it right now.

Wow your str and blocking are low for your high levels.

That's not a bad thing though with how the game engine is, anyone who says to put everything there needs to wake up. Line play isn't all about that anymore.

For guards... get strength and blocking to 61 (2nd soft cap) and then put all equipment on strength and then get vision and agility to 1st soft cap and speed to 40

First, I realize that the first comment is going to be, "You need more strength!" Yes... I probably do and I'm working on it. But that's not my main question.

My question is, have I totally screwed my two guards by having their vision so high? I'm suddenly reading that offensive linemen with high vision tend to break off blocks too early and go head-hunting for pancakes, which results in sacks and tackles for losses... My goal was to help them at picking up blitzes.

What's the deal with vision for offensive linemen? Also, confidence?

That level of vision should be fine. It your linesmen act as you described above it's a bug and needs reporting.

Oh and get STR up!

Slow down on the BLK. It's ok. But at your level, you need STR at or above 90. My level 20 DT would pancake you regularly at that STR. In fact, he also has +30 on you in AGL and SPD. And contrary to what people tell you on here, you don't need BLK = STR. Strength is much more important and needs to be higher.

Your VIS is fine. The RG needs it more than the LG, as the RG will frequently pull off the NT and pick up free pass rushers or will pull as a lead blocker on a run play. But you'll need higher AGL for that to be effective.

So, relatively speaking, where have I "wasted" points (Say, the 30 or so it would take me to get into the 80's for strength...)? Do you guys have nothing in your special abilities or confidence? I know I wasted some in speed, but that's only 1/3 of the points, at most...

unfortunately, where it's most obvious that you "wasted" points was in not getting str/blk up high enough early enough. In other words, if you were at 65/65 at level 21 instead of the 61/61, then at 22 you would have been at 65.67/65.67 and at level 27 you would have been at 68.17/68.17 without having spent any points on either. Assuming you have about 8 pts in both str/blk from eq that means these points would have come in the 2:1 range. So they could have raised up just over 3 points each naturally, but matching that would have cost you 12 sp. Now, if instead of being in the 2:1 range, you had been in the 3:1 range, it would have been a cost of 18 sp. In other words, while everyone gets the benefit of the natural level bonuses, the higher your natural levels, the more sp savings you get from them. So by not raising your str/blk to higher caps earlier, you lost out on the sp savings that the natural growth affords you.

For example, my G has very few sides right now at level 17, but he has over over 67 natural in both str and blk. While I'm behind on the sides for now, I have found that at least until now, Just str/blk have been sufficient, and now for in order for you to catch my strength, you are spending a lot of sp in the 3:1 or 4:1 ranges, but in order for me to catch your sides, I'm spending almost exclusively in the 1:1 levels.
