To avoid cluttering the Forum, I'm just going to post a new note here when the Power Rankings are updated. I'll also try a new format.

Here is a link to the Power Rankings:

Just by way of explanation, these results are purely statistical and consider various different factors (which are referenced in the document itself). The formula has been tweaked a little since last season, with the largest change being that margin of victory is considered for each game, individually, rather than as an average based on total points scored vs. allowed.

Also, since only one regular season week has gone by, there is very little data to base the rankings on, AND THE RANKINGS WILL CHANGE A LOT IN THE NEXT 4-5 WEEKS.

The referenced document has information on standings, ranking numbers, strength of schedule, upcoming strength of schedule, and breaks out the rankings by conference and league.

By way of summary, after Week 1 the West rankings are:
1 New Jersey Hood
2 Oh Canada Ehs
3 Ft. Richardson Rangers
4 Ceará Yorkshires
5 South Jersey Rotobowl Rice Riders
6 YellowKnife Bandits
7 Alberta Express
8 The Anti - Mod Squad
9 Thunder Bay Bloodhounds
10 Moose Jaw Blazers
11 Saskatoon Spitfires
12 Prince George Bulls
13 West Coast Trojans
14 AU Tigers
15 Hill City Heat
16 Chilliwack Thrashers

In the East, the rankings are:
1 Willow Creek Phantoms
2 Lumberjack City Yaks
3 Prince Edward Island Sharks
4 Vancouver Valiants
5 Medicine Hat Witch Doctors
6 Canadian Bacon
7 Paradise Cheeseburgers
8 Fort Myers Mustangs
9 Aspermont Roughnecks
10 Sherbrook Colonels
11 District Challangers
12 Edmonton Moose
13 Halifax Fire
14 Hudson Bay Trappers
15 Moose Jaw Mice
16 Old Milwaukee Boob Punch

I must say that's one of the nicest looking Google Spreadsheets that I have seen... Anything I have made on there is just painful to look at.

Amen. That is a beautiful, easy to read spreadsheet. Thanks for your work, iguazo.

It took some doing to make it readable, and its still not as readable as I would like, but it will do for now.

The file is also now updated to include the rankings following Week 2 games. The file is still at: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pOUigrsS32wLmojgT-lbtfQ&hl=en, and here's the summary by Conference:

West
1 Ceará Yorkshires
2 Oh Canada Ehs
3 New Jersey Hood
4 YellowKnife Bandits
5 South Jersey Rotobowl Rice Riders
6 Alberta Express
7 Saskatoon Spitfires
8 Ft. Richardson Rangers
9 AU Tigers
10 The Anti - Mod Squad
11 Moose Jaw Blazers
12 Thunder Bay Bloodhounds
13 Hill City Heat
14 Prince George Bulls
15 West Coast Trojans
16 Chilliwack Thrashers

East
1 Lumberjack City Yaks
2 Vancouver Valiants
3 Prince Edward Island Sharks
4 Willow Creek Phantoms
5 Medicine Hat Witch Doctors
6 Canadian Bacon
7 Hudson Bay Trappers
8 Moose Jaw Mice
9 Paradise Cheeseburgers
10 Fort Myers Mustangs
11 Aspermont Roughnecks
12 Edmonton Moose
13 Sherbrook Colonels
14 District Challangers
15 Halifax Fire
16 Old Milwaukee Boob Punch

There should start to be more separation this week as there are 3 matchups of undefeated teams:
Rice Riders vs. Ehs
Valiants vs. Phantoms
Yaks vs Bacon.

By the way, that's just a brutal opening schedule for Thunder Bay Bloodhounds, with the Anti-Mod Squad, the Hood, the Bandits, and Ceará in four of the first five weeks.

The simplest answer is that I have it out for the Hood and am trying to decrease team morale.

The slightly more accurate, and more complex answer, is that there are a number of factors that contributed (such as the Bloodhounds being 0-2, albeit in difficult games). The largest factor, however, is that the opponents of the Hood Opponents have won a total of 5 games, whereas the opponents of the Yorkshires and Eh's opponents have each won a total of 6 games. Because there is so little data this early in the season, the weights on certain values are pushing the Hood down. (Notably, had the Hood's opponents' opponents won just one more game, the Hood would be in second, but only a few thousandths of a point behind Ceará.)

Look at that, no overt gripes from the Phantoms, and they fell three spots this week. Of course, they did play the Fire and Challangers, both of which are 0-2 so far this season.
