Stay tuned to this thread for recaps of the week one games. Here's a list of this week's games with the ones to watch for. I even broke my rule of making predictions.

Alpha Conference
New Denmark Pirates @ Paris Penguins
Amsterdam Fire @ Judah Lions
Madrid Hares @ Liverpool Scousers
Zurich Gnomes @ Barcelona Bulls
Rotterdam Harbourmasters @ Cherry Valley Wizards
Massillon Grizzlies @ Berlin Wall Crushers
Malta Ospreys @ Tilburg Fighters
Ljublana Chamois Scabs @ Scotland Celtics

Games of the Week:
Madrid @ Liverpool Liverpool was probably the only team hotter than Madrid at the end of last season. The Hares just missed the playoffs last year, and don't look like they plan on letting that happen again. Their matchup with the Scousers is a tough one to get out of the gate, but getting a win here gives them a big first step to the post-season. Of course, no one likes visiting Liverpool. (Prediction: Liverpool)
Amsterdam @ Judah Everyone is crowning Amsterdam in the Alpha already. That has to give them some edge psychologically. However, if they don't look impressive against the Lions in week one, don't be surprised if the rest of the conference smells blood in the water. (Prediction: Amsterdam)

Zeta Conference
Camelot Kings @ Rockaway Knights
Hamburg Parrots @ Ironton Tanks
Rome Bulls @ Helsinki Hammers
Munich Maulers @ Downey Vikings
Gibraltar Wild Monkeys @ Chelsea Cardinals
Liege Red Roosters @ Bay Area Invaders
Cedar Creek Wildcats @ Eindhoven Breakers
Copenhagen Razorbacks @ Brighton Bears

Games of the Week:
Camelot @ Rockaway Two teams that stumbled a bit entering the playoffs at the end of last season. Both teams could be contenders for the league crown this season. We'll see which one of them gets off to the right start. (Prediction: Camelot)
Rome @ Helsinki The Hammers were one of the toughest teams in Zeta down the stretch last year. They draw a tough opponent early in the Bulls. We'll see if Helsinki really deserves the hype they've been getting this pre-season, mostly from themselves. (Prediction: Helsinki)
Cedar Creek @ Eindhoven The new guys in Zeta draw the Breakers in week 1. The Breakers took big strides last season and turned into a scary team to face down the stretch. They should give the Wildcats a proper introduction to the Zeta conference. (Prediction: Eindhoven)

I am looking forward to the Rockaway Camelot game this week. It should be a real good baromoter of each team this year.

Good luck to all on the new season!

Thanks for the write up. It really is my favorite thing to read in our forum. I wish my other league forums had this as well. I would love to pitch in in some way, but I've been trying to trim time from GLB. Too many jobs to do already. Does anyone listen to GLB radio?

That's the only prediction I'm not afraid of making.. Invaders will be 0-16 (unless another team gets gutted). I guess gutted isn't necessarily the right word, but it is a team with nothing but level 1's.. a reboot? Either way, it's going to be a long season to get through.

Good game Madrid. Looks like we planned the welcome to Liverpool dinner party the night before just right! Never try to go drink for drink with a scouser. Look forward to another rematch in the Play-Offs.

Will have the scores/highlights up soon. With my uneasy predictions, I was five for five though. Maybe I'll do something similar for the next game.

OMG Cali.... did you really just accuse me of hyping my own team!! I actually take offense to that =( It's really not my style.

Damn, the Invaders have been gutted? Maybe they have a team of slow builders or something? Ouch, just went and looked at them. That's really going to screw up stats in our league. Oh well, nothing to be done I guess.

If I'm a sneaky bastard, then you're a self-promoter.. live with it, Scrogz.

I'm setting you up as the "Patriots" of our league this season (though the Fire might be better choice), so everyone is going to cheer for me when I beat you.

We're starting with the Alpha conference this week.. Some exciting games, some not so exciting games, and everything in between:

Paris Penguins 37 New Denmark Pirates 23
Paris went into the half with a one point advantage, but they came out and scored two quick touchdowns in the third quarter to propel them to a win in the first game of the season. Ahmad Muhammad had 130 yards and accounted for 2 of the 4 Penguin rushing touchdowns. Fullback D.B. Bluffton plowed his way into the endzone here in the third quarter on his only carry of the contest. The score put the Penguins up by 14 going into the fourth.

Judah Lions 3 Amsterdam Fire 37
An outstanding defensive effort today by Amsterdam held Judah in check and got the Fire in the win column to start the season. The defense was helped by efficient QB play and a Fire ground attack that averaged over 7 yards per carry. The Fire got their first touchdown of the game with this punt return by Coop Cooper in the second quarter.

Liverpool Scousers 22 Madrid Hares 10
Liverpool kicker Rufus Leaking's 5 field goals were more than enough offense for the Scousers in this match. The Scouser defense held the Hares to under 200 yards and only two scores. Speed Kilz led the way for the Liverpool defense with 2 sacks and a tackle for loss. His two sacks came on back to back plays in the second quarter, forcing a Madrid three and out after the first of Leaking's field goals.

Barcelona Bulls 20 Zurich Gnomes 17
A game that came down to the wire between Zurich and Barcelona. Zurich signal caller El Toro Chihuahua completed 14 of his 26 passes for 146 yards. His biggest completion came here on third and 5. The pass set up a Rickey Hargrove touchdown that would tie the game with ten minutes remaining in regulation.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=108851&pbp_id=995326

As time wore down, James Swift took this third down pitch for 8 yards, allowing his team a much easier field goal try for the win. Matt Spedulvia would not disappoint as he drilled the gamewinner with less than 30 seconds on the clock.

Cherry Valley Wizards 3 Rotterdam Harbourmasters 62
Unfortunately for the Cherry Valley faithful on hand today, it looks like it's going to be another long season. The Harbourmasters outmatched the Wizards in just about every aspect of the game today. Cherry Valley did manage 235 yards through the air, but nearly all of those yards came after Rotterdam jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead. And despite the yardage couldn't find the endzone through the air. The Harbourmasters tallied over 400 yards on the ground, while stuffing the Wizard backs in the backfield all afternoon. This 23 yard scamper came midway through the first quarter, giving Rotterdam a 14-0 lead.

Berlin Wall Crushers 6 Massillon Grizzlies 31
Massillon visited Berlin today and proved that their defense hadn't lost any of their edge over the long offseason. With a balanced offense and a throttling defense, the Grizzlies jumped out to a 21-3 first half lead and never looked back. Dark Knight chewed up 11 of his 67 rushing yards on this play. He'd take it in on the next play for the first of his two touchdowns.

Tilburg Fighters 10 Malta Ospreys 7
The home crowd for Tilburg was treated to something it sorely missed last year, a victory. Coming off a rough first season, the Fighters put together a good game today as they showed little hospitality for the visiting Ospreys. That said, points were hard to come by in this one. Tilburg's Camron Giles was all over the field making 13 tackles and breaking up 3 passes. It took this fourth quarter pass from Goesinya to Gillott to lift the Fighters to victory and give their home fans something to cheer about.

Scotland 0 Ljublana Chamois Scabs 30
Scotland's Eph Williams found little time in the backfield today as he was harrassed all day long by a tenacious Scabs defense, led by the Secretary of Defense and his 2 sacks. The Scabs offense was effective running the ball and mixing in a very accurate passing attack. Mikal Gunner completed 62% of his passes, including this one for the first touchdown of the game to Jack Cuervo.

Coming up next.. Zeta

So funny story. Our last scrimmage game we never punted. This regular we kicked field goals every time we got into field goal range and we never punted. We kicked 3 field goals on first down, 2 on second and 2 on third down. 0 were on 4th down.

Needless to say we have some problems to work on in Amsterdam, but it will get fixed. I think we have it fixed now, but it is a wait and see.

And as promised.. your Zeta conference scores and highlights:

Rockaway Knights 13 Camelot Kings 27
The Kings defense did a good job of taking away anything downfield, making the Knights settle for underneath passes most the day. Coupled with a good effort by the rushing Pike boys (190 yards and 2 TDs), this gave Camelot the advantage they needed to leave Rockaway with a win to start the season. Colt Yang added 134 yards through the air and this touchdown pass to Action Pike to cap their first possession of the second half and give the Kings a 20-0 advantage.

Downey Vikings 16 Munich Maulers 37
Munich did their damage through the air today at Downey. Outfor Blood completed 30 of his 47 passes for 272 yards and 4 touchdowns. Buddy Vader couldn't be contained today as he streaked for 142 yards and 3 touchdowns on only 6 catches. This touchdown came in the first quarter, just two plays after the Vikings had knotted the score at 7 with a Teerilla Ross touchdown run.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=108916&pbp_id=999167

Eindhoven Breakers 24 Cedar Creek Wildcats 13
Eindhoven came into the season with a lot of buzz over the way they finished last year. If today is any indication, the Breakers are for real. Tyler Wilde led the way for the Breakers with 128 yards and this touchdown run, capping off the Breakers' first possession of the game.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=108929&pbp_id=997772

Ironton Tanks 45 Hamburg Parrots 7
Perhaps no returning squad finished stronger last season than the Tanks. With a stalwart defense that doesn't seem to have lost much of their swagger from last season, allowing only one score on a busted coverage in the first quarter, the Tanks seemed intent on proving that they are just as talented on the other side of the ball. Drew Bledsoe performed well in his first real game as the Ironton starter. He completed 68% of his passes for 206 yards and found Duane Lemieux on this 35 yard touchdown play with seconds remaining in the first half.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=108952&pbp_id=994434

Chelsea Cardinals 75 Gibraltar Wild Monkeys 15
The Cardinals opened their new stadium in a big way today with Gibraltar visiting to start the season. At the end of the first quarter, Chelsea had already amasses 170 rushing yards (on only 9 carries, a 19 ypc average) and led 21-3. Very quietly, Cortland Young managed 206 passing yards in an attempt to get his team back in this one. However, the big offensive line in Chelsea was too much. New addition McTavish had 29 pancakes while paving the way for the two Cardinals running backs to go for 817 yards and 8 TDs. Another newcomer, TJ Smith finished the game with 220 yards, while the Cardinals leading rusher from last season, Disco Dawson, rolled up a staggering 495 yards on the ground. This 60 yard rumble came as the Cardinals were grinding out the clock late.

Brighton Bears 34 Copenhagen Razorbacks 7
With Brighton opening their season at home, many were asking, "Where's Flex EZ?" The prolific signal caller that led the Bears last season into the playoffs spent this game looking on from the sideline. His replacement? Stanley Marsh was just 14 for 20 for 160 yards and 2 TDs. Brighton used several running backs in this game, with Slippery Brixx eclipsing the 100 yard rushing mark. No surprise that the new quarterback looked often to Phil Elliot. Elliot reeled in 6 catches for 100 yards and 2 TDs. This Marsh to Elliot 49 yard hook up came in the opening drive of the third quarter and pushed the early Bear lead to 24-0.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=108887&pbp_id=994252

Helsinki Hammers 40 Rome Bulls 10
The other scorching hot team from last year's playoffs, the Hammers, opened the season hosting the Bulls from Rome. Quarterback Stan Grady got the Bulls in the game early with a first quarter touchdown pass that gave them a brief 7-3 lead. The Hammers answered back with a touchdown drive of their own when Bubba St. James followed his blockers into the endzone here from just inside the 10 yard line.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=108941&pbp_id=999055

A small lead is all the Helsinki defense needed. Constantly harrassing the Rome quarterbacks, the Bulls had a lot of trouble keeping this one close. Gath Baal finished the day with 4 of the 7 Hammers sacks.

Bay Area Invaders 0 Liege Red Roosters 58
If they were asking where Flex EZ was in Brighton, you can imagine they were asking where anyone was in the Bay Area today. A drastic rebuilding project has left the Invaders with nothing in the cupboard. Fans were left to ponder whether this strategy would ever bring them a winning team. The Red Roosters had no problem taking it to the undermanned Invaders squad. Samuel Vimes and Stanley White combined for a 22 for 35 day with 273 yards through the air and 2 touchdowns. Liege even got scoring from their special teams when Sam Lewia returned this punt 57 yards to the house for a touchdown in the first quarter.
