Turk Stadium Adds Another 4,000 Seats!
After what can be considered a major team and financial success with the Turks selling out all eight home games last season, management agreed to approve a $2m project that will add two additional Level 100 sections and additional sideline seating to Turk Stadium.
"We are receiving a much larger outpour of response from the fans of the region and we want to offer them more opportunities to watch our team play and grow," said Kenny Korba, Chief Financial Officer for the Turks. "These additional 4,000 seats will be great additions to our already-vast stadium, putting our capacity at well over 15,000 now."
Korba stated that by the beginning of next season, the team plans to upgrade the stadium to hold in excess of 20,000. With the team looking to be a playoff squad for the second straight season, management is very interested in expanding the stadium to continue producing revenue and expanding the fan base.
League Outlook: Season 4
With the GLB Universe expanding ever-vastly, the Eastern Europe AA#2 branch looks to once-again be one of the most heavily contested leagues at the top for a third straight year -- and THIS year, the Turks plan on being right in the mix of things.
"We've been getting better with each passing season," said Vic Bitter, Turks Head Coach, "and this year, we aren't settling for anything less than a TOP 4 finish in our conference."
After a crushing defeat in the 1st round of the playoffs to Season 3 Conference and League Champions, the Rhine Red Raiders, the Turks returned to the war room, busted some skulls in their scrimmage games, picked up some major off-season acquisitions and look primed-and-ready to hit the field stronger than they ever have before.
"The vast amount of talent we've picked up this off-season is ridiculous," said Bitter. "We've got ourselves an unbelievable new Quarterback, a beastly new Linebacker, two new solid Guards and a very, well, 'animated' new Kicker. With these new additions to the team and us only really losing two starters, I think we're going to be a force to be reckoned with this season!"
Before the first pre-season game begins, analysts are favoring two-time conference semi-finalists, the Achaean Hellhounds, to finally bust through the proverbial "glass ceiling" and walk away with both the Zeta Conference and League championships this season, but Bitter stolidly claimed that they will not be getting that far without one hell of a fight!
"Two years in a row now, we've battled these guy, and two years in a row now, they've broken us down, beaten us up, and done everything could to demoralize us. This year, we're coming out bigger, better, stronger, and faster, and for the first time since our franchise establishment, I think our boys are actually looking FORWARD to taking the field against these guys. The Hellhounds have become the unofficial 'measuring stick' for success in our league, and if you can hang with them then you can hang with ANYONE!"
Many of the team veterans are also looking to pick up elusive wins over teams that have bested them the past two seasons, including the Berlin Bears and the Gdansk Destroyers.
"It's all about timing and morale," said Mason Masters, the team receiving leader last season. "Some teams come out of the gates like a ball of fire, and if you're not ready for them, you're bound to get burnt!"
On the defensive side of the ball, standout Malice Taylor believes that team chemistry was a major factor that held the team back last season. "You had a bunch of hacks here two seasons ago, trying to either relive their 'glory' days or a bunch of arrogant little punks looking to jump on the GLB bandwagon, and it took us an entire two seasons to really get a core group of guys who were willing to go out there and play together as a team...."
When asked about the chemistry this season, Taylor was much more optimistic. "Every team is bound to fall victim to free agency and sometimes, dudes are just going to pack up and leave once their contract is up, but for the most part, we've got guys here who are hungry and want to win, and I'll play next to them any day!"
For Ant Mays, a 2-year Defensive Team Captain, he believes that the team's strengths outweigh the weaknesses. "You know, for the longest time, we lacked a lot of depth in a lot of positions... We still have some weak spots, I'll admit, but we've replaced a lot of less talented guys with some real killers, man, and I think it's gonna show out there!"
The Turks Home-Opener is on 8/6 against the Cincinnati Convicts.
TEAM OUTLOOK
With the addition of several new faces this season and a rigorous, strenuous, physically and mentally demanding off-season, the Turks are now poised to be one of the most versatile, hard-hitting, effective teams in the entire league. We've taken time to assess each position on the Turks depth-chart (as of the start of the season) and take a look at the projected Depth Chart.
Quarterback
Projected Starter: Dash Unicorn
Projected Backup: Nigel Lovelace
***A two-year backup, Nigel will once again be handing the starting reigns over to Unicorn, who came into training camp and REALLY impressed the coaches and management. Dash has a very good, strong arm, and has better accuracy than last year's starter, Rexx Banner. Nigel, a consistent backup, will likely try and build off of his own nearly-1,000 yard passing season and the League's #3 passing unit attempts to continue its success through the air.
Halfback
Projected Start: Billy Simms
Projected Backup: Dan MacDonald
***A Two-Year starter, PotY and captain, Simms was the #4 rusher in the league last season and the #1 rusher in the conference. Behind a much more solid O-Line this season, Simms will likely continue running the ball down his opponent's throats as the run game looks to remain a strong factor in the Turks offense. MacDonald looks to remain a steady, effective backup and pick up the slack when the devastating Simms needs a break.
Fullback
Project Starter: Leo Lingquest
***Assuming solo duties this season, Leo looks to fill in the gap left by the departure of Kyle Diesel. A 2-year backup, Leo put 8 TD's on the board for the Turks last season and will look to add on to that number with full-time duties this season.
Tight End
Projected Starter: Sid Fosters
Projected Backup: Tarik Poole
***For the 3rd straight season, the Fosters/Poole combo takes the field for the Turks. Fosters has been one of the toughest TE's in the entire league since his first day on the field and this season, he is committed to making a bigger impact on the team's performance. Poole looks to remain a strong backup and pull down some big grabs.
Offensive Tackle
Projected Starters: Booch Freeman, Mr. GetAtMe
Projected Backups: IAm Best, Brewster Payne
***Perhaps the deepest position on the O-Line, these four likely be sharing the duties at tackle pretty freely. With the mid-season signing of Booch Freeman last season, the Turks added the ability to expand both the running and passing game while the other three stepped their games up throughtout the season and look to open up a lot of holes this season.
Guard
Project Starters: Gaylord Perry, Next Up
Projected Backups: Meslap Backwards, Frank Bundy
***A starter last season, Bundy will now be assuming a backup role as the Turks we able to sign a menacing Guard, Next Up, during the offseason. Backwards, who was also signed during the off-season, will join Gaylord Perry as a starter, giving the team it's first real depth at the Guard position since it started. With last season's "cluster" of G's with BigDaddy Longlegs and Walter Sobchak moving along, the team splurged and brought in two players who they hope will really give the offense the boost it has been missing.
Center
Projected Starter: Tankk Strong, JustDont TryIt
***After a reportedly AMAZING off-season, Turks management has yet to decide whether last year's starter, Tankk Strong, or JustDont TryIt will take the field to start games this season. While Tankk was considered the team's top overall offensive lineman last season, the efforts put in by TryIt may have earned him the ability to get some additional snaps. Either way, it seems as if the Turks cannot go wrong with either of these guys hiking the ball.
Wide-Receiver
Projected Starters: Eduardo Bastardo, Mason Masters
Projected Backups: Mason Clark, Jonathan Hamilton, El Loco
***With the signing of Bastardo late last season, the Turks added one of the top potential receiver threats in the league. Masters, one of the league's top receivers last season, will likely be looking to continue his incredible success while Hamilton and Clark will continue to contribute heavily. Loco, the "dark horse" of the roster, will still be hitting the field hard in his attempts to grow as a player. The #3 passing team in the league last season hopes to improve with their new depth at the position.
Kicker
Projected Starter: Sean Mercury
***Simply described as "animated," this hard-rocking kicker, while lacking the experience of last year's starter, Dave Fernandez, is said to have a world of potential and is being trusted to with some of the most vital plays of the upcoming season.
Punter
Projected Starter: Hugo Longer
***A 2-Year starter, Hugo will return to, well, "keek the ball" as well as anybody in the league!
Defensive Tackle
Projected Starters: Lucas Buck, Trevor Irwin
Projected Backups: Willie Mitchell, Tucker Douglas
***Leading the Defensive charge will be Buck and Irwin once again with Mitchel and Douglas coming in on relief. The DT position for the Turks sometimes is overshadowed by their DT counterparts, but it is being said that this position was given extra attention in training camp and the players, Irwin and Buck especially, have come out stronger than ever.
Defensive End
Projected Starters: Noble Warrior, Malice Taylor
Projected Backups: Merk'd Them, Vash Elite
***Taylor was perhaps the most dominant player on the Turks defense last season, and the team hopes that after an intense off-season, he'll come back even more menacing. Warrior and Merk'd have also shown vast improvement while Vash continues to show great heart. The core of the defensive line, many look for one of these players to be the breakout defensive star this year for the Turks.
Linebacker
Projected Starters: Jaxson Powers, Ant Mays, Derek Marks
Projected Backups: David Marriott, Rob Davies, Tom Highway
***Exchanging Vlad Krushovsky for Jaxson Powers may have been the biggest trade in Turks history as the oft-suspect Vlad will now be replaced by a USA AAA standout in Powers, who looks to compliment the 2-year starting duo of Marks and Mays. With solid backup Marriott ready to play practically any position in the corp and mid-season acquisition Rob Davies looking to make some waves alongside Highway, the LB unit may now be the strongest force on the Turks defense.
Cornerback
Projected Starters: Hanzo Hattori, Harry Canes
Projected Backups: Busty LaRue, Freaky Fast
***With last season's signing of Hanzo Hattori and the incredible gameplay of Harry Canes, the Turks may have two of the top players in the league at CB as starters. Busty LaRue has proven to be an effective #3 CB throughout his career, and Freaky Fast has been improving on his skills to become more than simply the Special Teams standout.
Strong Safety
Projected Starter: Fast Freak
Projected Backup: Robert Coon
***Coon stepped his game up greatly last season while Freak has been one of the top deep-ball threats the past two seasons. If these two both show the dedication and improvement they did last season, who knows how many picks they could share between them!
Free Safety
Projected Starter; Karl Butcher
Projected Backup; Doctor Deion
***Often lost in the shuffle, Karl Butcher has been one of the most consistent players for the Turks in the team's history. He has a great heart and throws his body around to make the big plays when needed. With Deion being a solid backup, the Turks seem to be set at the FS position.

TURKS CHANGE LOGO, COLORS FOR SEASON 4
After the much maligned switch from Black and Red to Baby Blue and Gold last season, Turks management has decided to compromise this season, opting to go with a Tri-Color mixture of White, Black and Orange.
"This team continue to grow and continues to become so much better every time it takes the field," said Guy Pierce Brosnan, the new Director of Public Relations for the team, "thus we've decided to sort of 'reward' them AND the fans with a new, more professional logo, better uniforms, and a more 'intimidating' color scheme."
After a highly publicized campaign to highlight the mature, "skillful" approach the team was taking last season, management came to the realization that the image change wasn't a very popular decision amongst players and fans.
"I loved the hard Red and Black colors," said longtime fan Khaliza Munitako, "and those blue and gold colors just weren't showing how hard this team really is! Some of these dudes can lay a sick hit and it's just hard to take guys in baby blue jerseys seriously!"
"I love the switch to Orange and Black, man" said hard-hitting LB David Marriott. "When you line up and see these new jerseys lined up across from you, it's gonna be hard not to get a little intimidated..."
The new logo, which features a Crusades-era Turkish Warrior has replaced the longstanding "Moon and Star" logo which is featured on the Turkish National Flag. "We wanted to find a way to preserve the rich history of the Turkish culture, yet modernize our look and logo in an attempt to compete with some of the flashier designs across the GLB universe," said Brosnan.
When asked about the fierce, almost-barbaric looking mascot, the players we absolutely thrilled!
"That moon s*** was the g**est thing I've ever seen, if you want me to be completely honest," said one of the Turks 3-year veterans. "Sure, paying tribute to your team's culture and history is cool and all, but when you've got bears and hounds and convicts running around, it's hard to be taken seriously as a 'Turk' when everybody sees some ridiculous looking moon crap on your helmet!"
Another player had this to say: "This is the most bad*** logo in the entire league, I don't care what anybody says! Image is everything now adays, and our look is gonna be right up there with the best in the sport!"
The Turks will take the field in their new uniforms for the first time on opening day, 8/2, when they travel to face the Vorponmmerm Wankstas. Their black jerseys will be uses from away games, their white jerseys for home games, and their special orange jerseys for key Rivarly and Playoff games.
