Hey all,
Here's the first edition of Power Rankings for the western conference. I try to do them after every game.

Ranking is subjective, its from what I see out of games and game performance. if you want to bitch and moan about where your team is ranked, feel free. its part of the fun.

And yes, I know I own a team and can be accused of being bias...but Ws and Ls don't lie and I think as the season goes on you'll see us rise and fall appropriately with performance...although you'd better believe you'll see more ups than downs (go 'Quatch).

Enjoy.

1. Calgary Destroyers
Previous: n/a High: 1 Low: 1
How do you not give the defending champs the #1 overall spot? Solid team with good depth and you can’t argue with the fact that they have the trophy. QB Van Egger is a model of efficiency.

2. Niagara Nightmare
Previous: n/a High: 2 Low: 2
Excellent starters and depth on both sides of the football. Defense has a few standout stars and no real pressing weaknesses. Recruited guys from higher leagues to drop down and anchor their team. Their FA action will likely pay significant dividends.

3. Kelowna Bulls
Previous: n/a High: 3 Low: 3
Strong playoff team from last year returns as an improved version. Their offense looks downright scary with lvl 20+ all over the place. Defense has a few weak spots but with that offense, they’re geared for a shootout every week…and geared to win more than they lose.

4. Saskatchewan Thrashers
Previous: n/a High: 4 Low: 4
Gave the defending champs perhaps their toughest game last year and are similar to them in many respects in team layout. But decided not to stick with what was working and looks to have recruited heavily in free agency.

5. Moose Jaw Psycho Penguins
Previous: n/a High: 5 Low: 5
They sport some of the best players in the league including the DT Dumb Bob, RB E Forty and QB Barry Manilow, but have consistently had problems in their front office and locker room. Latest news is that owner benbolly has been turfed by the CPU and currently they have no GMs….stay tuned.

6. Shilo Silly Nannies
Previous: n/a High: 6 Low: 6
Rock solid playoff team from last year will most likely make a return trip to the post season. Big addition of DT Glenn Dorsey Jr. will make it hard to run on this team.

7. Kansas City Gorillas
Previous: n/a High: 7 Low: 7
Formerly the New Orleans Spartans, the lone USA city in Canada A5 looks to have completely rebuilt…and rebuilt well. The new owner is a question mark thus far performance wise, but he’s done a hell of a job building the Gorillas. They could shoot up the power rankings in a big hurry.

8. Saskatoon Sasquatch
Previous: n/a High: 8 Low: 8
The Sasquatch improved in some targeted areas and will be able to swing with anyone. Given that its my team, I can’t really talk it up or down that much. I’m happy with the moves we’ve made though.

9. Chilliwack Care Bears
Previous: n/a High: 9 Low: 9
Apart from having the hottest and most ghetto-fabulous team icon, the Care Bears have a pretty damn good team. They brought in a new starting QB via free agency from the Europe leagues but return a lot of their other skill players from last season. Their only problem right now is they seem to lack depth at a few positions.

10. Unsavory Gentlemen
Previous: n/a High: 10 Low: 10
The UG spent their offseason doing two things: calling season 1 a scrimmage and upgrading. They’ll be a far tougher foe this year. QB Gabe Dias looks to be an all-star quality player. However, the pressure is on them to back up some of the smack they’ve been talking.

11. Manitoba Lions
Previous: n/a High: 11 Low: 11
Will definitely exceed their 2-6 record from last year. Nice balanced depth and decent talent on both sides of the ball. No real standout players jump out at you, but the Lions will contend if they gameplan well.

12. Toronto Lockdowns
Previous: n/a High: 12 Low: 12
The Lockdowns look to have a great defence with talent across the board. Their offense, however, is a different story. Players at key skill positions, quarterback and running back, will have to overachieve to put some points on the board.

13. Alberta Irukandji
Previous: n/a High: 13 Low: 13
Brought in some high priced defensive talent, including a LVL 26 linebacker (26?? In an A league…seriously?) but overall lack a lot of depth. Some hard recruiting before the league starts would raise expectations for them considerably.

14. Prince George Warriors
Previous: n/a High: 14 Low: 14
The Warriors will play spoiler for a few teams this year. They’ve got something good started and are a few boosts and levels from being a dramatically better squad then they currently are. The owner looks to be building the right way.

15. Northside Hangmen
Previous: n/a High: 15 Low: 15
Active in FA…but in some seriously odd ways. They’ve got four starting quality running backs, yet only three defensive tackles who are all underleveled. The owner still has a lot of bucks in the bank account though, so maybe there will be some big defensive upgrades on the way.

16. Edmonton Beavers
Previous: n/a High: 16 Low: 16
Everytime I look at their roster, they seem to be improving, but they’re not there yet. Not a bad team but hey, somebody has got to start at the bottom. On the upside, there’s nowhere to go but up!

I don't do the Eastern conference as well.... Not as familiar with the teams so I'd be more work to keep track of all developments on that side of the league as well.

However, JF, I know you just want to check so you can trash whereever the Quebec Eagles are.

If I were to do a Power Ranking for the East, I'd say the Eagles would likely place somewhere in the bottom 8. Granted, thats just off a quick once over of the Eastern Conference.

What they've got going for them
- A full team with depth...you'd be surprised at the number of teams that don;t have a full roster as of yet.
- Good ownership that realizes that levels aren't everything and wants to build a team right. He seems pretty active on forums and whatnot, so odds are he's a decent game planner.

What they've got against them
- They lack true starter quality at a couple of different positions.
- Their O-Line will struggle to start the season against better Dlines.... they'll level up a little quicker and by midseason should be able to hold their own though.
- Lack of higher level tackles will hurt their passing game and hurt their usage of their best offensive player, a lvl 19 WR.
- Need stronger depth on defensive tackle.

I'd guess they'd probably rank somewhere around 10 to 12.
