Today we take a look at the Yorkshire Rippers, a team that managed to achieve a playoff spot in only their 2nd year last year, but were dealt a devastating defeat by the Stirling Crusaders to end their title hopes.
"We achieved out goal that was set out for the season; get into the playoffs" team owner Jack Evans told us. "We had a good run at it and we did our best in the playoff game, that's all I could have asked from my team".
Moving into their third season (and the fourth of GLB Football), there is a buzz in the Rippers training camp. The team has brought in QB Alex Sutton and WR Brandon Lloyd, both players being with the same agent, to help with their passing game that finished 19th in the league last season. Seymore Balls comes in, likely to start at the TE position, giving the team a legitimate receiving threat that was lacking from the TE spot last season. They also boosted their offensive line somewhat, bringing in John Fox to start at RT, and Andy White, who will be in the Guard rotation. Both are formidable run blockers. Offensively, the Rippers are promising excitement, especially from their QB and RB, who appear to have been learning one or two new tricks this offseason.
Defensively, it seems that the Rippers made even better acquisitions. A team that had trouble bringing any form of pressure to the QB last season has brought in 2 Defensive Ends and a new Nose Tackle. 2 of the 3 new Defensive Linemen are expected to start. Team Owner/Agent Jack Evans also brought his 2 star players to the team, Linebacker Lawrence Taylor and Cornerback Slasher Evans. Slasher managed to rack up 10 interceptions on the 16-0 Blacksburg Ballers team last year, whilst Taylor mainly played special teams. Both are expected to start here in Yorkshire. 2 other CBs joined Evans, Pearl Ricky and Max Muldjord both came in cheap. The final defensive addition is the FS Keetz McDave, who is expected to challenge Tinkle for the starting spot.
Maybe the biggest addition to the team is not here yet. Jack Evans today told of a mystery defensive lineman on his way to the team. "I can't reveal too much right now, but I can confirm we have a pre-contract agreement signed with another defensive lineman". Jack didn't go on to mention much else, apart from that the new player will be "the highest level player on our team".
Jack Evans went on to add that all the players that have joined the team are not the key addition to the offseason. Jack has gained the services of Blacksburg Ballers defensive co-ordinator to come in as an Assistant Head Coach. kb2120's main function will be to head the development of the team and it's individuals. Although reggiebuckeye returns at the offensive co-ordinator, the Rippers have a new defensive co-ordinator in cpwhite. He will be learning the tips of the trade from kb2120. Finally, the team has brought in USA Pro owner CTap, who is giving the whole team advice, especially the OC reggiebuckeye.
In conclusion, if you want to have a flutter this season, back the long-odds of the Rippers, Jack Evans doesn't think you will regret it.
