This game features the leagues lone undefeated against the silent assasins. The OBs were expected to challenge for the title. The Horns were a general afterthought. Expected to be a playoff team but not challenge for the title all the Horns have done is improve the team and beat every one they were suposed to, and some they weren't.
Houston defeated the 8th seed Austin squad 26-0 shutting down the much heralded Jimmy Turner in the process. Turner was held to 13 yards on one catch. The victory was a total team effort. Houston had a 97-54 advantage in total offenseiv plays and out gained the Longhorns 468-74.5 total yards. The run game was the top performer in the playoffs with 240 yards coming on the ground. While the pass offense was also tope in the West with 228. The offense left some points on the field though, settling for 4 FG on 6 attempts. While the offense was impressive, they bogged down in the redzone several times. The Teams standout performer for game one of the playoffs was Chris Whaley, gaining a playoff high 165.5yds at 5.5 a clip and a rushing TD. The Defense forced three and outs all game long, putting pressure on the QB and swatting every pass in sight to the ground. Highly touted Gunslinger Chet Mclawson was held to a paultry 59yds passing on 9 of 31attempts. That is 39%passing for those of you scoring at home. Chet was also sacked 4 times and hurried uncountable times throughout the game. Houston limited Austins ground game to 15.5yds on 23 attempts for a staggering .7yds a carry.
Dallas squared off with the Omaha Mavericks, winning 25-0. The performance was a sound thumping of a very decent squad. Dallas secured victory with a swarming defense and a punishing ground attack. The defense only allowed 125.5 total yds against. On a 100 yd field, thats is damn impressive. The offense produced a very nice 419 yards with 245 coming on the ground. The games outstanding performer on offense has to be the HBs Johnson and Flash, they combined for 219.5yds and a touchdown.
The defense did not get as much pressure as Dallas is acustomed too, but they were still very intimidating. They snaged 3 picks and just plain shut Omaha down. The player of the game on defense was as always Sticky Wang, 7tackles 4 for a loss and 5 QB pressures.
Dallas is sure to put the pressure on Houston and it should be a good game. Both teams have outstanding defenses and the game should be a field position and turnover battle. I have a feeling whomever can manage a touchdown will walk away on top of the world, as I dont see either team caving on defense. My prediction is first TD wins. Therefore I give Houston the slight edge. 19-12
