I don't have a mathematical system of figuring these, it is opinion based. Just scouting rosters, previous games, and preference.

1 Port Moody vs 8 Listowel
Looks like Listowel was hiding some boosts if they could only put together a 5-3 record for 8th place. I'm a huge believer in defense wins championships, so Listowel has a great chance to put together a big win. Port Moody's kicker doesn't compare to the Huskies. This is the most interesting matchup of the opening round here, but I think it all comes down to gameplan, chemistry, and home field advantage. Port moody defends their seed (10-9).
4 Saskatchewan vs 5 Tradewest
Battletoads are known for their aerial attack, but the Wolf Pack have a solid defensive backfield with plenty of depth. While Tradewest may have chemistry issues, Saskatchewan's O-Line will not be able to hold ground against the batteltoad D-Line. Tradewest moves on (34-13).
2 Laval vs 7 Montreal
Laval is undefeated for one reason: defense, defense, defense. This team has only allowed 22 points, and 114 rushing yards in 8 games. While they don't have much depth, their starters are the best in the West. Lucky for Montreal, their passing game has been warming up all season. However, Laval will continue their unbeaten streak (40-0).
3 Vancouver vs 6 Quebec City
Vancouver only has one loss all season, when their offense was shut out by Laval, but Quebec City's defense has a few weak spots that Vancouver could take advantage of. However, the Dirtbag O-Line will Crush their opponents and pull off the upset (9-17).
1 Lancaster vs 8 Niagara
Niagara's defense is deceptively deep, but Lancaster has the #1 offense in the conference. Even though said offense is saturated with inactives, the chemistry and home field advantage will make a difference in this game. Lancaster goes to the second round in a shootout (44-29).
4 Hamilton vs 5 Quebec
IMO Quebec has the #1 HB in the East, but Hamilton's only loss is to the undefeated Hustlas. Quebec did a great job recovering from their Kingston days, and pulled in many top recruits. Hamilton lacks superstars, but has solid depth from top to bottom, and has gameplanned very well all season. I don't think their defense will be enough to stop the multi-attack of the Quasars though. Eastern upset (24-38).
2 Puvirnituq vs 7 Nova Scotia
I'm partial to this game, so I won't do a writeup. You all know who I would choose anyway.
3 Notre Dame vs 6 Sudbury
I looked at many of ND's players during the recruiting phase, this team is filled with solid builds and has a 5 game win streak. Sudbury pulled a low seed after losing 3 in a row to teams with a combined 22-2 record. ND has several of the highest rated players in the league on the O-line and defensive backfield, and they know how to use them. The Mountain Lions defense will not be able to handle the Irish. Tough end of a season for Sudbury, because ND wins (55-6)
