Kalahari suffers critical loss to Somalia, now looks towards GRI

By AWBLING, GLB Press Writer - Africa

KALAHARI - In a game where #1 seed was on the line, the Night Riders were handed over a tough loss by the undefeated Somalia Wasps by a score of 27-10. The Wasps, now 15-0, will go into the playoffs locking up home field advantage all throughout. “Defensively I’m not sure where we went wrong, they just over powered us. We held their QB to 57% but the running D gave up about 5.5 yds/Att” said Kalahari Defensive Coordinator Bumph. Somalia came out of the gates early, running hard behind that big offensive line and took an early 20-10 lead. Kalahari failed to answer back in the second half and turned the ball over twice on forth down.

Team owner BengalFish was a little more enthusiastic after the game, “We will second guess ourselves for a little while on this one, but I stick with what our GM's called for on tactics and stand by it 100%. They are a good team (Somalia); I still think we can beat them. We are 13 - 2 right now and there are many teams who would like to be in our situation. If we win the conference championship in the playoffs nobody will remember this game or who won the regular season”.

Someone must have told Bengalfish about another game that was going on at the same time that allowed him to see a silver lining. In a shocking upset, the Fort Wayne Generals defeated the Zimbabwe Bush Squirrel Rebellion. The rebellion was the only other team to hand Kalahari a loss; and at the moment appeared to have taken the #2 seed away from the Night Riders. The rebellion losing however, allowed the Night Riders to lock up the #2 seed, whether they win or lose in their next contest to the undefeated Ghana Rhea Infection.

Even though their next game will have no effect on seeding, this is not a time to become complacent. Kalahari is looking into entering the playoffs on a winning note to boost their morale when the games matter the most. It won’t be easy. The Ghana Rhea Infection has the second best rushing defense in the league allowing only 20.2 yards per game and are #4 against the pass. Meanwhile, Kalahari’s Offensive line have been impressive, only allowing 2 sacks this season and leading the way for two 1,000 yard rushers. Under center, QB Drew Seabass will certainly be tested but his reputation of coming out on top in hostile situations should allow him to lead his team to another victory in front of a sold out crowd in Kalahari. And the saga continues…
