We're starting in the Alpha this week. A couple exciting games this week, and even more games with playoff implications.

Whitechapel Rippers 50 Tilburg Fighters 3
No surprises here. The Rippers take care of business once again, building an early lead and then running their way to victory. Shifty McSpeed ran for 182 yards and 3 touchdowns in the effort. Rippers' tightend Udont Wantnone had a big day turning his 3 receptions into 62 yards and 2 scores. 41 yards came on this play in the second quarter, giving the Rippers a 14-0 lead.

Liverpool Scousers 18 Massillon Grizzlies 15
Two Alpha heavyweights went at it in Liverpool. The Scousers have run off 5 straight victories now and are looking to be a very scary team late in the season. Only Whitechapel owns a longer win-streak in Alpha. An outstanding defensive effort by both teams, neither offense was able to reach the endzone. Freddy the Foot was a perfect 6 for 6 on the day. A miss from 40 yards in the 3rd quarter by Jimmy Kick-me-inda was the difference in the score. This interception by Nathan Anderson in Massillon territory with only 12 seconds remaining in the game allowed the Scousers to set up for the game-winning field goal and avoid overtime.

Scotland Celtics 16 Rotterdam Harbourmasters 37
The Harbourmasters bounce back after last week's close loss to the Scousers with a solid victory over Scotland. After trading scores early, Max Powers broke free for this 51 yard touchdown pass that started a scoring run by Rotterdam that Scotland couldn't answer. Powers finished the game with 148 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns.

Amsterdam Fire 71 Berlin Blitzkrieg 0
No drama in the Amsterdam - Berlin matchup this week. The Fire jumped out early and never looked back. This pass from Muscle to Harrison was the fifth first half touchdown for Amsterdam.

West Yorkshire Bling 7 Barcelona Bulls 31
The Bulls dominating win makes the road difficult for the Bling. Barcelona won with solid offense and a smothering defense that kept West Yorkshire off the scoreboard. Cornerback Bruce Guntner was everywhere with 9 tackles and 2 interceptions. This pick in the first quarter off the hands of receiver Chives Linden killed the first Bling drive and allowed the Bulls to get on the scoreboard first with a 42 yard Doggie Wells field goal.

Ljublana Chamois Scabs 34 Judah Lions 31
An exciting game between the Scabs and Lions came down to the final seconds of regulation. The win gives the Scabs sole possession of 8th spot in the standings and a tenuous hold on the final playoff spot in Alpha. Randy Marsh caught 9 passes for 139 yards for the Lions, including this spectacular play on third down to tie the game up with just over a minute to play in the fourth quarter.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9515374
On the next possession, Mikal Gunner finds Jack Cuervo on this third down play to get them into field goal range.

Zurich Gnomes 17 Madrid Hares 24
Zurich came up short in their comeback attempt, getting two fourth quarter touchdowns to get within 7. A road win by Madrid moves them just one game behind the Scabs and the coveted final playoff spot. The Hares had a little luck on their side at the beginning of this one. After fumbling at the 1 yard line, right guard Jebat Buffet recovered and fell into the endzone for the score.

Cherry Valley Wizards 6 Paris Penguins 37
The Penguins continue to show improvement since their 1-9 start. Paris wins its second straight game with a 37-6 drubbing of Cherry Valley. It was all Ahmad Muhammad early on. He had three touchdowns in the first quarter, including this 80 yard run following a missed Wizards field goal.

The playoff picture is getting a lot clearer in the Zeta after this week, but there's still a lot of fighting to be done. The remainder of the season is full of big games in the Zeta. Two overtime games this week could be indications of things to come.

Italian Stallions 111 Liege Red Roosters 0
Never in doubt. Even before the game started it felt like this one was over. The Stallions defense came away with their sixth shutout of the season. They also had two backs go for over 300 yards on the day. Pyle, with 321 yards, had 7 touchdowns. This was his first touchdown run and came on the Stallions' second offensive play.

Bay Area Invaders 48 Downey Vikings 17
The Invaders haven't given up on this season. A solid outing against the outmatched Downey Vikings this week proves that. After trading scores in the first quarter, the Invaders pulled away to win this one handily. Quarterback Jay Fiedler went 20 for 33 through the air for 317 yards and 5 touchdowns. Under pressure, Fiedler completed this long pass to Speedy Jackson for 63 yards on the Invaders' second offensive play of the game.

Copenhagen Razorbacks 7 Hamburg Parrots 27
Hamburg wins this week to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. They own the tiebreaker with the Invaders and have yet to play Munich. Following suit in what's been a rough season for the Razorbacks, they couldn't overcome a 17 point half-time defecit in this one. Mart H. Barlow and Lynford Johnson ran for a combined 172 yards on 32 carries to ensure the Parrots' victory. This pass from Parry to Johnson got the Parrots down to the 1 yard line, setting up a Barlow touchdown plunge on the next play.

Helsinki Hammers 47 Gibraltar Wild Monkeys 3
Helsinki won their fourth straight this week over visiting Gibraltar. The Hammers defense has really stepped up its play in the latter part of the season. They only allowed 21 yards rushing in the game and harrassed the Gibraltar passers to the tune of 16 hurries, 1 sack, and 3 interceptions. Quarterback Aldo Licious was forced to make a touchdown saving tackle after being picked off by strong safety Simon Ize here in the second quarter.

Ironton Tanks 47 Rockaway Knights 0
The Tanks keep rolling along, and the Knights stumble against the possibly the conference's toughest defense. The Knights' Golden Accuracy got to know Tanks linebacker Randell Bazell pretty well this week. Bazell was a beast. In addition to his 4 tackles (1 for a loss), Bazell had 4 hurries and this sack that brought up fourth down and a Rockaway punt. The win clinched the Tanks a spot in this season's playoffs.

Eindhoven Breakers 31 Camelot Kings 34
It took overtime for the Kings to stave off the pesky Breakers and clinch their own playoff berth in the Zeta. Facing a defense stacked against the run, the Kings' passing game responded. Backup quarterback Colt Young was the hero completing both his overtime passes for 26 yards, getting the Kings in range for the game-winning field goal.

Brighton Bears 27 Munich Maulers 10
Already guaranteed a playoff spot, the Bears moved ever closer to ensuring home field advantage. Pulling away late, Flex EZ threw two touchdown passes in the second half to go along with his 326 yards. The first of them came on this third down play where he found Phil Elliot breaking free in the endzone.

Game of the Week
Chelsea Cardinals 30 Rome Bulls 33
The second of two overtime games this week was this matchup of two teams fighting for playoff position. The Cardinals took the lead early and after this run by Disco Dawson at the close of the second quarter, carried a 7 point edge into the second half.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9517580

Rome went ahead on a 6 yard pass from B.R. West to Deadly Ninjinsu with 2 minutes to play in regulation. It gave them a 4 point lead.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9519728

The Cardinals would answer back three plays later with this bomb from Rosenbaum to Speedy Tony.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9519982

The Cardinals should have taken more time because the next play from the Bulls was this 22 yard strike from West to Nicholas Wagner, that put them close to range for the tying field goal.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?pbp_id=9520055

After missing his first attempt in overtime, Rome kicker Wade Richey wouldn't miss his second opportunity after this pass from Perriloux to Landry Jones got them in range for the game-winner.
