Forum > Goal Line Blitz > End of 1st half, what are your FG settings (with and without timeouts)

I used to do FG's anytime it was under 30 seconds in FG range since I'm tilted by GLB clock management. This season directly before my playoff game, I made the timing a little tighter, with some annoying regret.

This resulted in running a play with 20 seconds and 1 timeout, but resulting in the end of the half with no FG. https://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=101917&pbp_id=829394

So I ask you, dotball guru's, what is your AI cutoff for kicking a FG with 0 timeouts, and with 1+ timeouts?

no timeouts 40 seconds or less

1 timeout 30 seconds

then an input to kick a FG if less than 10 seconds no matter down or distance so long as within FG range

Thanks for the response. My 30 seconds or less on everything worked fine, so I think you can safely remove the "40 seconds or less, no timeouts" portion.

Last 10 Seconds 1-4D, no TO kick
Last 30 sec, 4D, no to, kick

this is where it gets tricky. the ai will often ignore clock mgmt. too many times, it ignored that last timeout and let the clock runout anyways. so nothing will be perfect BUT in perfect game: (all info is based on per crash data that i researched over the years)
these always assume that you are already inside the opp 40.
1 TO, a short run should take 7 secs until a TO is called. a pass is harder because it depends on how long the receiver runs, and broken tackles take even longer. my rule is 9 secs for a run and 22 secs for a pass.

0 secs gets ridiculously complicated. i'll see if i can find any of my notes that has all the scenarios. my end of half/game logic never stopped changing as i hit new scenarios. does bort still wait on 4th down to kick a fg with 1 sec?

That seems like bad luck. 20 seconds seems like an abnormally long running play. Frame by frame I counted 38 ticks, that should be ~3.8 seconds.

I also think it's weird the Bort Bowl ended the same way.
https://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=102026&pbp_id=868150 17 seconds came off the clock on a 1.5 yard run., and then 20 more seconds came off on the following passing play.

I use 15 seconds as the any down kick FG, time outs or not. I also have QB spikes programmed in. I believe they do save a few seconds, and none of those plays were followed by a QB spike. Are QB spikes broken, or does no one else use them?

QB spikes have to be implemented in the OAI and on 2nd & short with that much time left you should be throwing which can also be setup in the OAI. So no, nothing is broken.

Agreed that Bort Bowl ending is a little different since WAR MACHINE has no timeouts, whereas OP there was a timeout left that didn't get called.

Thanks. Any feedback on play in the OP? (1 timeout + 20 seconds = clock ran out)
