It's probably unlikely (but not impossible) the community convinces Bort to run some sort of re-targeting marketing campaign to engage older players to come back to increase the number of agents to fill up the CPU teams, so I was trying to think of something fairly light touch to improve the experience for all.
Currently, CPU players are too weak, especially at higher levels. At plateau you can easily run up 400-0 scores, and you literally never have close games with a full human team vs a CPU team.
In order to make the games against CPU teams more competitive, there are a couple ideas I had;
Buff CPU raw numbers (light touch)
As far as I know CPU players will have set attribute numbers based on their position with no variance. They're just positional templates. Boost these numbers by a % amount, lets just go with 5%.
It would be a case of Bort going to the CPU player template entries in a DB and adjusting the flat numbers. There would obviously be some testing involved to make sure the game doesn't break, but this doesn't seem like something that is difficult to do.
Introduce dynamic, proportional attribute values
In a given league, Bort will have access to the average values of the attributes and ELs of all players in that league. You could take the average on a per position basis then automatically update the attribute values of the CPU teams in that league.
This option is more engaging than the first option, but would take some additional work and could potentially be manipulated by players if they purchase multiple teams, lets say A team is their actual team they are building for, with teams B & C. They could intentionally never assign attribute points to the players on teams B&C in order to manipulate the average value making team A relatively stronger, getting better stats in the process.
CPU player profiles
Much like how a game like Football Manager works, every CPU generated player has a Potential ability value and a current ability value. Bort could introduce the same for CPU players so there is variability between teams, so some CPU teams would be bad and you'd still wipe the floor with them (but maybe not 255-0) and some would be good, competing for playoffs.

, but would the CPU dots be made to be better to the point that they would be better than some of the human built dots? Because that could alienate some of the userbase which is something to be considered. I am all for making games competitive or finding a way to repopulate the game to a fraction of what it once was, but I do agree that this is the more feasible option that we can hope for of being actually done. Because the player base and teams being made are less and less it seems each season
