This has been suggested a few times, but perhaps by having it in the actual 'Suggestions' forum, someone at Warrior General might see it.

Basically, this boils down to contacting former/past agents to invite them to check out Goal Line Blitz again. There's a good story to tell here: the accelerated player development will have a lot of people interested in seeing what it's all about. I know from my own experience, it only took me popping my head back in, back in August, to see if this thing was still going, for me to become completely addicted (again).

So let's try it?

There are often a number of factors that go into whether we implement a suggestion or not and ultimately it comes down to the following:

1) Will it improve the user experience with the game

Yes. Having more agents adds life to the forums, and playing against real, non-CPU teams is much more entertaining. This one's a no-brainer.

2) Is there a business reason for implementing the suggestion

More agents means more people buying flex. Do you like making money?

3) Does the cost of devoting the coding time to implementing the suggestion make sense

There is no coding necessary. If you have an email database, you can simply craft an e-blast to send. Hell, you don't even need to lick stamps.

4) Do the developers feel the suggestion works with their vision of the game

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest the developers didn't envision a slowly-dying game, but rather, a vibrant community of dotball aficionados. Yes, there is undoubtedly a die-hard community here, but it's getting smaller every year, and without new blood (or returning players), the long-term prognosis isn't great.

It would be so easy to do. As someone once said, 'It's easier to try, than to prove it can't be done.'

It needs to be done! Every off-season there should be an email going out to let agents know of the coming off-season and the beginning of the new season just to see how many might sign back in to check out what's going on or as a reminder of the game and what's going on timeline wise. Shoot, as the Super Bowl was happening and we were hitting the off-season to begin a new season which would have been an opportune time to have such a email blast with a statement similar to the NFL season is ending, but GLB is about to start the next season! Come join us for season 112!

It's been explained its not as simple as that, unfortunately

I do feel like the game has grown since I joined like 5 seasons ago, I see forum posts with more and more names I don't recognise.

Something we could do as a userbase is post on reddit and other social platforms in places where we think potential players might exist. There are sub reddits dedicated to sports management sims, could start there

Fair enough. I'd be curious to hear what the issue is though. In any event, what options are available for reaching out to former agents? More to the point, what is the game doing to ensure it survives? I recently purchased flex, but if the game is just going to turtle and go belly-up, why should people continue to support it?

What efforts are the game making to ensure its survival?

Very little.

Actually, very, very, very little.

They reshuffle the leagues once the season ends. They respond periodically to support requests.

They don't do *anything* to promote the game, or reward those who attempt to help.

If anyone ever had the "God view" of what took place at this site, it would be a remarkable story about how a product was created that was incredibly addictive....and then the owners just milked the easy money rather than trying to take it to the next 10 levels.

Love the game. The people who run it are stupid.

I appreciate the passion. And ultimately, the fact that this 20 year old internet browser game which hasn't been under active development for 15 years still exists, is a testament to it's passion from you and others. There are literally no other online browser games that have lived this long and are still alive, even in zombie mode.

However...

1. If you want to appeal to Bort, message him via discord PM and use @bort on your message. If you do that there's a decent chance he'll read it, but a 0% chance he will ready messages on any GLB forum.

2. I agree it's insane for them to not pay an email spam service to send out email spam. By law they need to use a service that'll throw unsubscribe buttons on their messages and keep an active mailer list.

3. I am shocked that after the server crash, Bort came in and did quicker dotbuilding and remade the game, so technically miracles are possible. With that said, I think there's no chance, short of purchasing warrior general games from them, of Bort to advertise or make any additional changes.

Something can be awesome and cool and amazing, but still one day die. The death does not cheapen the journey, it is simply a part of what made the journey so special. The game isn't especially close to the end, but that end will come eventually and inevitably.

I believe partially there was no opt in feature previously like there is now when you register an account

"Yes, please send me emails about game updates (We will NEVER give or sell your email address to any third parties or send you spam)"

Nevermind, appears it's just a cost thing

Right. Basically when sending a spam email, there legally needs to be a button the "unsubscribe" that edits the email list.

Though tbph I can't imagine this is cost prohibitive, and some agents coming back would EASILY offset a monthly cost.

From 5 minutes of googling, Mailchimp people like. $114/month for up to 10,000 contacts. Goes up/down based on #contacts. Hard for me to estimate # of GLB accounts over its lifetime.
