I found a link to the offensive playbook in the defensive AI, but I cant find the defensive playbook. Could someone provide a link?

The plays in the [Select Play] pop up of the AI are very bad quality for me and I can't tell what positions are written on any of the dots and in some cases what the player is doing. The quality is much better on the offensive playbook link.

I'm returning after nearly a decade off - is Zone coverage decent now for D play calling or is Man coverage primarily what you want to run?

Most play a mix with man coverage being the focal point. A few will play mostly zone but you really gotta know yer shit to be damn good at it. I tried... I sucked balls... and while I no longer DC (or OC or ST) now (for a while at least), if I did it would be what you mostly see around here (MAN/zone mix).

Zone can work and be a primary focus of your defense. However, you have to go in knowing your dots are gonna look like idiots while their vision and agility are too low the first couple of seasons.

Also you need to make sure your secondary and linebacker have the right SAs (i.e Zone focus) to make it work.

In the long run you're going to be better off creating your own defensive plays anyway. I don't believe any of the DAI's now use the Preset Plays and I don't know of an easier way to view User Submitted plays.

Thanks for the tips guys

Yes Ryan, It's just going to take some time to recreate some of the stuff I had. But on the positive side, I had a fun time putting it together back in the day so I'm kinda reliving some of that right now haha

Definitely good info but I was mostly looking for clearer pictures of plays with what they do since the pictures in the Defensive AI builder aren't readable (though maybe they are somewhere in that link, haven't looked through everything there yet)

Yeah, I was hoping to bite off a little at a time and start with pre-built, but you're probably right...
If you mean specifically the preset defensive AI, it looks like two of them still use the preset plays. Either way though both the user submitted and pre-built plays are hard to read

in the defensive play builder, what does the setting cover man w/o move mean?

Also will the defensive dots auto adjust to align in front of the 3rd WR's in the trips offensive set?

Cover w/o move means whereever you placed your DB, he'll be there at pre-snap when in Man Coverage. If you do not do Cover w/o move, when the replay hits you'll see that DB on top of whoever he's assigned.

Let's say you want SS to Cover HB going strong side but you want him to stay somewhere in the strong side under third. You place him where you want him to be as ball is snapped and you assign him SS Cover w/o Move - HB Strong -or- Blitz for example. If you do not use Cover w/o Man, the SS will be lined over the top of HB and your under strong third pre-snap positioning doesn't work.

Then as ball is snapped, SS will have a vision check on HB (I've only seen this vision check fail once, first week of Rookie season), should HB go on a route to the strong side, SS picks him up for Man Coverage. If HB goes weak side or pass blocks, your SS is on a Blitz mission. Alternately, instead of Blitz, you could choose to have him Man Cover w/o Move - HB - OR - Under Strong Third (or whatever) and thats when you see the Red Circle. So in that case, when HB goes weak side route, then SS hits the zone (shown in red circle) instead of a Blitz. Possibilities are endless

As for TRIPS, yes your dots in the DPC will auto align even if it looks really weird in the DPC. But you do not want Cover w/o Move most of the time for Trips when you're, say, covering WR2 with SS for example. If you Cover w/o Move SS on WR2... then SS will be wherever he is placed on Strong side. If you just say "Cover" then he'll auto align pre-snap

Okay thank you that makes more sense. I just saw a replay where it auto-aligned, which is nice to know. That will help me moving forward.

I'm working on some schemes for sure, got the itch to redo a bunch of this lol

Almost everything is blurry, which makes me think it's done on purpose.

Fwiw, there is a bit of a back door to get them all in one place, but there's no link.

You have to create a defensive package, then when you select the play you can see everything in one place at least. You can see all the defaults and user submitted plays, under their respective tabs.

Best way I can describe it is this; If you have the LOLB covering the HB out of the backfield... w/o move... then wherever you put the LOLB out on the left side is where he starts the play from. If the play is a screen to the HB on the WEAK side (opposite of where you have the LOLB) then he's gonna play pure hell trying to cover his man.

Knowing that it helps you figure out which defenders you want lined up directly across from their man... and which one's you don't. For me the biggest thing was the difference between SB normal and Trips. Both formations use the exact same players but one has WR2 on the Weak side... the other on the Strong side. And the defense you use (or create) starts with the CB that normally covers WR2 always on the Strong side. If you forget that then WR2 will be wide open in Trips formations... unless you want the CB to blitz and cover WR2 with someone else.

Had a new question pop up. Can I not have a custom location player have blitz be their end read?

I set my LBs in a certain spot, have them on Cover Man w/o move on say TE but if they stay in to block, blitz. However upon changing that last read to blitz it resets the player to their default position (changing Alignment to "normal"). If I then try to move them it switches the last read back to zone and doesn't move the man-to-man line like usually would and upon saving they will be back to the default position where the man line was still pointing. I'm wondering if this is a known limitation or if I am experiencing a bug.

I think that's normal now

when I was building plays, we were able to set the Dline and Lber's anywhere, but that was way OP honestly.

I think the Dline and LBer's are now in set places, unless you do the strong/weak/balance, ect.. shift

If you're going to set their end read to blitz, then they have to be aligned in one of those predetermined locations
