I was just wondering how a defender can accumulate reasonable pass defense stats with nothing invested in it.

Is just going tall going to cut it? Like does having a 6'6" LB give a natural boost to swatting passes from being tall? Additionally, what are the other pass defenses? The "because of nearby defense" ones. It seems like intimidation might help with that. Almost like a LB says "Yo Mama!" in the ear of a receiver and they end up dropping the pass. Is that what is going on?

Little confused by your statements but let me help.

Things you need to be better at pass defense.

Awareness for man or zone, depending on which you use - 90 at min.
Deflection - man defense 80-90.....zone 70-80
Cover Tech - 70+....85 is more ideal. If a LB 50-70 range.
INT - zone 40. Man if you can afford get 30-40.

Physicals matter of course as well. Balance always to at least 60 on all defenders. Footwork on Cbs 60 is kinda min. lbs can get away with 50 but if pass focused 60. Quickness 50 at least. Sprinting CBs you will want 70 at min. Lbs 65 at min.

Never forget condi on all defense and heart to at least 35 if not 40.

Good info, but I was wondering if anyone knew if you got pass defense skills "naturally" from being tall? Like does the math in the script give a bonus to tall defenders on pass defense by default? I have a LB with enough footwork to recover after getting juked off a route, but he catches up and its either a "from nearby defense" drop or a PD. Currently have a gap of 35 between Targets and REC ALW with 135 target sample size and will log another double digit PD this season. I have nothing invested in pass defense so I am wondering why folks don't catch more of their passes when the LB is covering? Which leads back to the physical attributes of being tall and able to catch up. Additionally, does having second quadrant intimidation play a factor? Does the LB yell in the receiver's ear to get them to drop passes because of Intimidation?

no it doesn't really factor that much. Having more height helps in jumping type moves and general reach as a radius. There are some things to factor though. Taller players lose balance easier than shorter players. So having shorter players helps in "general" movement ability. Same thing for weight in the tackling rolls. Heavier players tackle better than lighter players when they get their "hands" on the offensive player. We do not know what the "factors or numbers" are specifically for those.

Height & weight do have relative advantages/disadvantages, but build still matters the most at the end of the day.
