I have thought this was happening for awhile now but always chalked it up to my mistakes . I noticed two instances last game where it happened and I double checked my plays and AI and there is no reason I can find to explain it.

this play the RDE is supposed to immediately go to under weak zone but instead blitzes. It happens in the very next play as well.

this play i have hb targeted the first 3 progressions and wr the last two. The play starts off with targeting the two wr. Could this be because initially they were more open than the hb? but then how did it revert backwards to target the hb, I always thought once a progression has gone by that dot can't be targeted again.

Anyone have any input or has experienced something similar?

First play, you must always have 2 players blitzing. If you had both DEs in the flat only the NT would be rushing passer so it forces the DE to rush.

Second play, I believe what you explained is was happened. It's what gives people fits vs zone defenses because receivers will appear open when they really aren't and will mess up your progressions. I don't think it's accurate that once they've passed the progression they can't go back to it, just that they will never throw to someone not in the progression.

RC26 correct as usual.

1st - Sim is hard coded so that 2 man rush is the minimum. If you want to drop both DEs on a 3 man line, you have to bring a LB or DB on a bliz

2nd - "open man" shouts will interrupt progressions which is a good thing. WR1 shouts first tick, so all progressions change.

The QB didn't throw the ball because the drop back is "too slow" . The QB cannot start the throw motion until his drop back is complete. If you pause the replay, you can advance 1 tick at a time, and see the QB is still dropping back when he peeks at WR2 and WR1. The actual progression doesn't start until the QB sets his feet at the 37 yard line. He's locked in on the HB, and ignores 2 open WRs past the first down marker.

Given enough time, a QB can go through all 5 reads, and then throw the ball to his 6th or 7th even though those aren't scripted, and they can be any eligible receiving target.

I never knew that 2 players have to blitz, I guess I have never tried to pull everyone back in zone before.

From glb wiki

Blitzing - Blitzing can be a little complicated due to having to set a "Max # of Blitzers" as well as "Chances". Going back to what I stated earlier, you cannot trick opposing offenses. There are only a few cases in which you would blitz someone less than 100% of the time. They would just be in risky situations. For example, you may feel you can take more chances earlier in the game or if your team is losing you may feel you need to blitz more to create more pressure on the QB and perhaps cause an interception.

For our purposes you only need to use 100% chances. A very developed defensive AI may have score/quarter based blitzing differences but it is in no means necessary. Having these can sometimes just make things harder to adjust.
A Complicated Warning: If we were in a 3-2-6 formation and we put the max blitzers at 2 while inputting the LOLB and LILB to blitz, we aren't going to see a blitz if our basic settings for blitz chance are at 0. If in our basic settings we had our blitz chance set at 100, 2 blitzers would be randomly chosen unless the defensive coordinator inputs 0's for the positions.
Remember that in certain formations there may not be a ROLB, CB5, etc. In a defensive formation that involves 2 linebackers, the MLB and LOLB will be placed onto the field.

This is why I started experimenting with the concept of using DEs like LBs.

Theoretically, a 5-2 defense is essentially like a "big" 3-4, if you get the builds right .

A basic 4-1-6 Dime, becomes a Cover Max, with a 2 man rush, 2 under zones, and 7 other pass defenders to use in whatever combinations of man and zone you want.
