What is the best way to stop the run against a superior team?

Id suggest more blitzes, more man coverage and make ur CBs play close to their man.

I'm not sure about the man coverage bit, but blitzing has got to be the single best way of stopping the run. Of course the more you increase your blitzing the greater the chance that you will get torched over the middle. Not to mention the problems that CB blitzes can cause for a defense if they are poorly executed.

No man coverage. Zone coverage is the best at stopping the run. Blitzing does help.

Can zone coverage still protect you against the pass if you are focused on run?

Chop their legs off?

Take a look at my team. I am the OC/DC and we run zone coverage and are the #1 Defense in the entire league.

Zone helps a lot with outside running, as does focusing on the outside run (the DE's do that stupid drop into coverage thing even more). For inside running blitzing helps a ton, most of the blitzing in this game seems to be the run blitz variety.

Zone can get you torched by a good speed wr or a good TE though. Blitzing can get you torched vs. the outside run, so it is a big gamble to blitz to stop the run, unless they run inside almost exclusively.

If you really want to shut down a running game, blitz a lot, play 100% zone and focus 100% on the outside run. Then cross your fingers that they don't pass... Ever.
