Hi all, i’m catching up on the games I’ve missed & I’m hoping someone can run analytics for me? I don’t really want to brood too much until I have solid numbers, but I’m really starting to believe full playbooks will put you at a competitive disadvantage over the course of a season.

Other than (now) 3 seasons in of team play consistently going against the tactics, I wasn’t impressed with what I saw when experimenting with my alternative team last season.

I have talked to some guys about this. I am seeing more of a penalty for using the same defensive play over and over again than say an offensive play. I notice that an offense my struggle against say the same blitz in the 1st quarter, but then will notice 2nd to 3rd quarter my offense just kinda looks at the blitz and goes okay seen this no worries and does fine as long as its not 3rd and long.

On offense, I have noticed with my defenses that if a team is trying to use like the same screen really close together, the defense starts to kinda auto react to the play and its less effective. For me I always try to keep over 15 plays in one pass section and that seems to work better for myself. 3 seasons ago I ran a few tests and was getting better avg yards per play by using more plays. That was just me though.

I know if Kvo and I tend to use some of the most plays over a season than others.

I went a couple seasons of FULL playbooks. Didn’t go well

I use 5 short and my best 5 YPA medium in short. Do 5 med and 5 best YPA long in medium. Long 5 highest completion percentage long passes and deep I use solely for RZ plays. Usually the best working plays from the other 3. I'm constantly trying out different plays in scrims to update the playbook

Play selection will always rule over play diversity. Some plays just plain suck...

This is hard to tell. There are so many factors like builds and the quality of your opponent I am a believer in consistency but I have seen what DrEdgar is talking about.

On offense I feel I run a good bit of plays. I actually think it helps because you aren't putting all your eggs into one basket. On defense I'm a good bit less diverse I feel.

Play diversity works, but by the time it works if you pick your plays well you should be so far ahead it doesn't matter.

Ah, I’m also a full offensive playbook guy so sorry for the lack of coverage there.

Defensively I’ve been trying to keep it (relatively) simple, and since scaling back & reworking the focus I’ve been happy with the results for the most part.

Offense feels clunky for the most part, I can’t lie. I’ve never been able to get a good mix, so I’ve never really felt comfortable with my philosophies. More plays definitely seems to backfire at times, but sometimes they hit which makes it hard to judge.

At one point I was using a full playbook but noticed it was just too inconsistent for the way I wanted things. I like to know how many YPA/ YPC I am getting consistently. When I was using a full playbook I would dot run plays based on YPC so if it only got me one YPC, I would dot it a 1 and so on. With passing, I would subtract a dot for completion % below 50, subtract a dot for int% over 5 and subtract a dot if sack % was over 15. If I had it tagged 3 dots and still wasn't helping any I would just delete it from the playbook which is how I ended up at 10 solid plays per section. Of course I could never do this w/o glbscout. I can honestly say that playbook is probably still mid range decent compared to some others though. I really struggle on the def side of the playbooks though.
