Thread been done a thousand times I know...

I know the depth charts show HB and FB are less penalized compared to any other position in the QB slot. I seem to recall using a HB in the QB slot was still a 50% penalty to avoid wildcat offenses.

Other OOP were around 5-10% - i.e. FS into CB slot, FB into HB slot, TE into WR slot, etc.

Does that sound right? QB is the main one to worry about?

I wanted to use a blocking FB in the QB slot on outside HB runs, but everyone is telling me the penalty is too high...just keep your rushing QB in as blocker.

Maybe it just doesn't come up that much at higher levels...

Thanks for any insights!

Imo, it's not just the % that matter.

Like, using an OT at bTE let's you be 70 pounds heavier and have better SAs.

Look at the total package and try things out for yourself.

In your case, a rQB isn't going to have Lead Blocker, or even Run Block SAs, and probably won't be able to invest in blocking VAs and won't have HB% gear either.

Then as far as % go.... So what if the FB is penalized 50%? A QB has a Blocking of what 8 or 10? 50% of whatever your bFB has is going to be way better than that. It'll just be a matter of Speed, and maybe Vision which are entirely dependent on how you built your bFB, and the scripted blocking path of any given play.
