Is anyone else getting a message that they have used 5 of their 10 level ups when they are still level 1 or 2?

After Day 1, you don't get 10. 5 are gone until "catch up boosts" at the start of your 5th season

Ah I see. Well, guess I'm not starting a team this season after all.

Just out of curiosity, is there some logical reason for this restriction? Is there some exploit that it addresses?

youre a lead mod. shouldnt you be in charge and have the knowledge

No. Basically the gist of it is this;

You can choose to NOT "early boost". In which case you actually are choosing to purposely "miss" your boosts in order to train your dots at a lower level. It closely resembles 'slow building'. You will get those "missed boosts" at Plateau. (5 'finishing boosts' and 5 'make up' boosts.) But you can NOT miss any more boosts until then or you will come up short.

OR... you can choose to early boost. In which case you will end up at Plateau with only 5 'finishing boosts' available to you.

OR... you can choose to "early boost" then decide to not use your regular seasonal boosts in that 1st season... then you would get those 5 'missed boosts' at the end (plateau). (Nobody that I know has considered this but me and I don't have the math figured out yet to see if it's an advantage or not. )

And some are boosting all the time... early and often and have said this is the best way. I suspect when these 1st batches of dots reach plateau we'll get the dirty low down on all this shady business. That's why I am waiting to buy a team and give it a go. I think there's more 'changes' to come once these dots hit plateau.

I had one but it got erased, and I haven't picked a new one yet. And the reason I didn't know what the logical reason for having this restriction is that there isn't one. GLB used to have about 50,000 users. Now there are about 1600. Traffic sites show we lost about 25% of our users with the data crash (~600). Probably don't need lead mods for 1600 people. Barely need any mods.
