With the inception of OPC it would be really nice to play matchups and be able to properly tag WRs as well as have custom slots for the CB's.

Thanks,

There aren't custom slots for wr's you can choose play to play, so. I think this is a very bad idea to give Cbs.

I would however support the idea that you can tag a specific CB depth chart to "cover" a particular WR or WR's. That way if you have a certain speed cb you can put him on the other teams like WR.

There mostly is custom slots. There's the generic WR slot you can pile everyone in, and there's also WR1/2/3/4/5 slots that you can use to put certain WRs in certain slots. The only thing missing is Ai functionality that would allow for WR5 to play in the WR1 slot user a certain circumstance

WR and CB have the same slots currently (wr1-5, cb 1-5) based solely on position, but you can't force either on a given play.

Not sure this is about 'covering' receivers. I mean, what we have works fine. HOWEVER... I can see the case made for 'Blitzing CB's having a custom slot... or being able to have 'run stuffing CB's' in on run downs/distances... but having 'coverage CB's' in on passing downs.

And there SHOULD be custom WR slots for the same reasons. If you want your 'blocking WR's in for run plays then that should be a thing. Which means the OP's reason for tagging then becomes a thing as well.

This would make GLB worse than it already is. Being able to choose when 158 strength WR's or 158 strength CB's go into the game, is not a good thing for anyone at all.

Blocking WR's as it is are dumb (though it's surprising break block CB's never became a thing to match-up on them), but letting an OC choose to put blocking WR's in for every run play only, would be total aids. At least as it is, you have to burn a WR slot to use blocking WR's.

Actually I think it would even out rather quickly. See... by giving custom slots to BOTH sides, you eliminate advantages. When you eliminate advantages then quality of OC's and DC's become more important than simply "my dot's bigger than your dot". I mean, a 158 strength WR vs a 158 Strength CB = stalemate... or 'no advantage'.
Having more options doesn't mean breaking the game.... IMHO it means the opposite. It means opening up dot building dynamics that can be actually WORTH building special dots for. It also means current dots that people constantly say "don't build that... they're crap"... such as Pass Blocking O-line or Coverage LB's... those would have a actual USE for a change and be worth building.
I am all for ANYTHING that opens up the offense, defense, and unique dot builds in the game.

That said, TBPH, I doubt Bort is likely interested in these things right now. But we'll see.

Imho the advantage of a quality OC or DC is already extremely high in this game. More custom slots will make that advantage even higher.

And it's not like it's something that can be fixed by a team game-to-game so if you get to plateau without 2 pure strength Cbs and 2 pure strength wr's, your team would essentially be fucked from the get go.

I support custom DE slots. Pass blocking olinemen do fine as-is, people are just meta slaves. But custom forced wr/db slots will be very bad for the game Imho.

I'd like to see a match-up option for those teams that do use a 150+ Strength WR or even a BTE in a WR slot. If that player is on the field, I'd like the ability to cover it with a 270 pound hhLB with no OoPP to worry about.

That way we don't have to have a whole other meta for break block CBs. It's dumb that WRs can outweigh CBs by 40 pounds anyway.

I swore I would not weigh in on this, but fuck it, it's been 105 degrees plus for 8 straight days here in Austin, I'm salty, so let's do this.

The thing that makes me crazy about not being able to match up against WRs by their tags (because you can definitely tag them!) is this:

Imagine going to a football game. You quickly notice that every WR that lines up on the left is big, beefy, and never has a ball thrown to them. You notice that every WR that lines up to the right is smaller, much faster, and is targeted with passes normally. You also notice that the overwhelming majority of outside runs go to the left, behind the big beefy guys.

You ask yourself, why didn't the coach of the defense just put bigger, beefier guys out there on the big, beefy guys? And you're told, he's not allowed to, unless he guesses which side will be which type of receiver before the game and sets it up, only to have a 50% chance of guessing wrong?

It's just a glaring example of something not working like real life works, and I know there are shitloads of things like that in this game, so whatever, but that is my personal axe to grind against not being able to match up with WRs.

Just to be crystal clear: I'm not mad about OCs doing stuff like this - as many people way smarter than me have pointed out incessantly, passing to WRs has been garbage in this game, for the most part, for pretty much forever. It just makes me itchy.

I support the "tag CB to follow WR" like CB A always follows WR B. Sure, cool, fine, makes sense.

I DO NOT support letting OC's choose when to put in a specific WR for a specific play.

I DO NOT support letting DC's use WR tagging to force defensive plays.

P.S. slug, 99% of the OC's in this game are too lazy to basically build 2 OAI's to be able to swap blocking WR1's into blocking WR2's, so even as-is I wouldn't worry about that much. Fwiw.
