I know the golden rule is to avoid putting SP into extra Punter SA's, but does First Step help with punt approach velocity & punt distance at all?

If you watch punt replays, the Punter doesn't seem to move. I would guess it doesn't fire.
Some agents swear 1ST works great on kickoffs though.

Agree. If standard punter, diving tackle likely is best extra SA. A sort of 'Just-in-case' SA.
